What do you guys think is the best Bargain/Cheap .50 BMG out there? I know there's a lot and i've not heard a lot about them beside the Barrett Model 99 (which isn't that cheap compared to the others)

personaly, i think the best value .50 is the Safety Harbor series

either the stand alone SHF/R50 or the AR upper UltraMag 50

bothe bolt action magazine fed .50BMG

    SHF/R50 starts around 2,500
and the Ultra mag upper around 1900

"Cheap 50 BMG"... *does not compute*

    Sold mine.

I had a Bohica Arms upper, which is about as cheap as they get, but the wait is well over a year it seems. I think East Ridge Gun Company makes some very nice rifles for fair prices. If I were going to get another .50, I think that's the way I'd go.

Wasn't talking necessarily uppers for AR's but whole guns. Would wanna keep my AR-15 just like it is. Was thinking more about quality for price.

well uppers tend to be cheaper.

its much cheaper for a company to produce a upper, than a whole firearm because its less BATFE interference. less licenses, etc

I see. I guess I just don't like the though of cannibalizing one gun for another. Especially when i've spent about $1500 just to get the AR shooting right and all the extra's (you know, in cabin GPS, smoker's package, sunroof):D

Anyway... Besides that, i've been looking around, you'll spend about as much money on a scope as you will a gun. HOLY CRAP good optics are expensive!

popping 2 pins and switching uppers is "cannibalizing" ?!

well buying an upper, and a 200$ AR lower is still cheaper than buying a whole .50 firearm

Well... it's also my excuse to get into reloading, another $600 expendature.

True. Guess i would just like as many "complete" rifles as possible. Suppose its more of a bad feeling that listening to good advise

so see your thinking of it all wrong....

dont think of it as turning 1 rifle into 2 uppers. think of it as an excuse to buy another lower!

You'll be better off buying a dedicated lower, there's more to it then just popping the two pins.

State Arms/East Ridge Gun Co. makes a very good and reliable rifle for the price. More then one trophy has been won with their rifles, so you can't go wrong with their stuff.

The Serbu BFG-50 is another good entry rifle, huge following and Mark is a good guy even if he tells you "two weeks".

From there you have the Armalite AR-50 and the Barrett M99, both are built like tanks and both companies have good customer service. Both are capable of MOA or better with quality ammo and the shooter doing his part. There's also the BGA Viper, it's a copy of the Barrett M99. The company used to make parts for them and did a few mods to the M99 and called it the Viper.

Other then that, there really isn't anything "cheap" about owning a .50 BMG rifle. If you want a Serbu and Ferret50 receiver for $500 (if still available) let me know as a friend has them for sale. The BFG receiver will knock $500 off the final price, so you'd be looking at about $1,800 to finish the rifle. You could sell the Ferret50 receiver or keep it and buy another .50. The ferret50 is another .50 BMG upper for an AR lower.

Thanks 50 Shooter. Good advice. Not looking to buy right now. I think my wife would kick my ass if I bought another gun right now. Probably be looking to buy in about a year (after I buy some reloading equipment for that expensive @## ammo!)

+1 for State Arms/East Ridge. That's what I've got. A discontinued model that they used to make called the "Lightweight", and it is... at 17lbs. It's roughly half of most of the other dedicated 50's out there. Next up would be an AR-50. Then there's the LAR/Maadi-Griffin clone (LAR Big Boar).
