Trigger,
When 4v50 Gary said "concur" he meant "I concur", which means "I agree". Concur = agree. As someone else pointed out, Gus McCrae was the poster immediately before 4v50 Gary. Hint: When you come up to a word you don't recognize, start by looking in an ordinary dictionary, not a "global" internet search. (Of course, there are dictionaries on the internet, too, like
Merriam Webster.
Dimis,
Good points in favor of reading! Just keep in mind the old saying "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing." A good rule for life is: Never make a major decision or take a major action without revealing your intentions to and discussing them with someone (or several) you trust and who is older, wiser or more experienced. THR is good for about half of that, and you can do it annonymously. Not bad.
Trigger,
In THR parlance (look that up!), a "troll" is a poster who writes something that is intended to elicit (look that up) a bad reply from a THR member. The troll is hidden. His post does not say that that is what he is trying to do. That's why we call them trolls. The reference is to the old fairy tales in which trolls (monsters) would hide under bridges, then jump out and ambush unsuspecting travelers crossing the bridge. There is also the
double entendre (French borrowed by English) from fishing, like when you troll for fish, you pull a tempting (but fake) bait behind a slow-moving boat (easy for the fish to catch) and wait for an unsuspecting (fooled) fish to bite. Anyway, when I say "bad reply" by a THR member, I mean a reply that seems to show gun owners and shooters to be stupid, evil, vicious, criminal, sadistic (look that up), cruel, uneducated, trigger happy (yikes!), foolish, dangerous, kooky, fanatic or having other negative personality or tendency. That is to say, the troll, even though he has to sign up with THR to be able to post, is NOT really a good guy. True blue THR good guys enjoy guns, are highly educated and trained in their use and strongly support our USA citizens' right to keep and bear arms (RKBA) guaranteed by the Second Amendment (2A) of the US Constitution. The troll is a bad guy who hates guns, hates that ordinary US citizens have the RKBA, wants to have the government remove that right, and a whole bunch of other un-American, anti-freedom, anti-Constitutional things. We call those bad guys "antis", as in "anti-gun" or "anti-RKBA". So a troll is an anti in disguise. And a troll is trying to get you to write something that looks bad, politically, for our RKBA cause. Trolls, or rather, the organizations they work for, copy and record all of our postings for possible future use in court trials or in legislature (look that up) debate or in TV ads or in newspaper articles or in unthought of propaganda (look that up) in the future, to try to take our guns, ammo and RKBA away from us. Very political. Very evil. So, every word you write on THR, keep in mind that the antis are watching and recording and saving what you say. I know; what a drag! But all of this is the primary reason we have moderators (besides the other stated goals of the forum). Moderators are your friends, at least if you want to keep your guns. We are, quite literally (look that up) in a war, here, and the moderators are, if not our commanding officers, at least they are our MPs (military police). And they deserve a huge round of applause for doing it. 'Cept I don't know how to give applause on an internet forum. But OK. Get it?
