Good CC holster for SIG P-226

Anyone out there have any recommendations for a good, comfortable, and concealable holster for a Sig P-226?

Height - 5'9"
Heavily muscular build
Semi-Tropical Climate

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Well - my 226ST lives in a K&DHolsters Eagle Defender - http://www.kdholsters.com/. OWB rig.

I am OWB exclusively and because I am moderately broad shouldered (as you may well be I suspect) I find that concealment clothing hangs well over this, with no printing issues. I do not like the diiscomfort of IWB and sweat buckets in summer - this rig is my ideal.

Here are a coupla pics to show that. Oldish belt, bit of drop but it sits fine - all day and every day.

Many thanks for the links and pics. Looks like a comfortable carry. I don't like IWB either. When it gets 103 with 99% RH I too drop buckets of sweat.

From the looks of it, should be a good choice. I ride a bike as a sole means of transport, and IWB means I'm always getting some sensitive part of my anotomy or other dug into every time I thumb the starter.

Check out Milt Spark's 60TK OWB holster. It's a highride belt holster that conceals quite well with the proper cover clothing. I can usually conceal a full size 1911 using this holster.

I wear a Joe Rocket Ballistic. (how's that for sneaking one by as "on topic"?)
Great on a hot day...won't ride without proteciton of any form, from head to toe. That includes, of course, the carry piece. The JR has some great lightweight body armor, and it's OPEN weave allows for excellent air flow. Have pants to match.

Check out Milt Spark's 60TK OWB holster. It's a highride belt holster that conceals quite well with the proper cover clothing. I can usually conceal a full size 1911 using this holster.

Thanks for the link. I like the NLG as well. How well do they retain the weapon? As i said in an earlier post, my sole mode of transport is motorcycle, so a secure hold is a must. Would truly be saddened to see my baby sliding down the highway because I had controrted my old man's body to fit high rise rearset footpegs. Not that I actually own anything these days even remotely resembling a crotch rocket, but I do still ride them from time to time.

Milt Sparks holsters are of one of the best in the industry. They make open top holsters with great retention. But, you can special order yours with a thumb break if you dont feel comfortable with a open top.

But, assuming this will be under your JR jacket, your piece ain't goin' anywhere.

That's the biggest P226 I've ever seen!

I find my P226 a tad too big for IWB carry, but it works just fine for a OWB thumb-break belt-slide leather holster ala Galco.

5'-9" IS a tad large for a P226 I suppose. May have been imported from Texas.

Milt Sparks leather is awesome stuff, but I also like my Kramer holsters. Among those I own is a Belt Scabbard in horsehide for my 226R's. It rides high, and holds tight:

I've been buying Kramer lately, because I can get them in 2 wks as opposed to 10 wks for Sparks. Although I personally think that the Sparks VM2 is the best IWB you can buy, the Kramer OWB's are on par with the Sparks. For less money, I have a Galco thumb.break for my G20 with which I've been very impressed for the price.

Enough choice out there to make it harder to decide on the leather than on the carry piece.

Did notice Galco couldn't ship alligator rigs to California. Is there ANYTHING they don't tell their subjects how, when, where and what to do? Heck, if they need gators so badly out there, they can come get the one that lives in the ditch behind my house. I am more thankful for Dixie Land every day.

Right now, from the info that you good folk have given me, I'm leaning towards the Eagle Defender. Price is an issue, and it IS priced well.

I know from the pics that it looks to be a comfortable carry rig, so I guess my next question is how does it do in the retention department? (Being as you ride as well, are you comfortable with carrying it down the highway on two wheels?)

I usually carry my P220 in a Blade Tech kydex IWB.(I'm waiting on my P226 holster as I type) Its very comfortable and nothing conceals better than IWB.

While I'm waiting, I have Desantis Speed Scabbard for the 226 that is very comfortable. The only thing I dont like is, I have to watch how I move, especially when I reach or bend as the holster pops out pretty far from under my sweatshirts.

One advantage to the P220/P245/P226 is its a common holster, as long as you get the holster made for one with a rail.(unless they all dont have rails) My new 226's came with the rail, so they wont fit the 220's IWB.

If I was younger and did not have an old bust left elbow - I'd still manage hand-stands. The rig would not hold the gun in that position!!

However - yes, I carry it same condition all times - including biking. I regard the risks of damage to self in a spill worth taking.

It did have a good test just over a week ago. We were with friends bowling and while horsing around a bit, I lost balance and fell in a heap on some chairs - the fixed-to-floor variety!!! Ouch in the rib department Had the gun been real loose I think it could have come out - only cover was my trusty Smith & Alexander vest. It stayed put fine.

I would in a way like a retension strap but even having practiced draw from one of those - have the feeling that it could still compromize an emergency draw too much, so - I stay with open top. Again - it is a calculated decision, knowing that I could just lose the gun under extremes, but I reckon with vigilance and care that is unlikely.

All things are trade-offs in one way or another.
