I would like to purchase a chronograph, and have seen many in the catalogs and on the internet. Never have used one ,but would like to start. Any opinions on an "inexpensive" model that has been proven?

Shooting Chrony f1

Yes, go to MidwayUSA and look into the Shooting Chrony f1

That particular model comes with a readout and long cord so the readout can be placed on the shooting bench. I also got the switch which lets you press to do averaging of groups, each shot recorded (up to like 20 or so), extreme spread and diviation.

The whole thing, shipped was about $105.00 (with the accessory switch).

I use it on a decent camera tripod I have. I bought a long red metal toolbax that I store it in with the cords and acccesories which enables me to store it without having to fold it up each time.

I did have to clean out the threads with a tap where it screws onto the tripod, as the green paint was thick enough that the first time I went to the range with it, I had to end up bringing it home as I couldn't screw it onto the tripod and I didn't want to force anything.

One good thing about this company is, should you happen to accidentally shoot it, they will take the damaged one in and give you a rebuilt one, as good as new and only really charge you some minimal amount (like $25, shipped). I had read of someone who shot it then continued to blast it apart and I put in the next blog entry that for a small amount of money, they would have taken that back - and he would have known that, had he thoroughly read the instructions!

Don't over look the Pact model 1 XP, the "brains" sit on the bench with you, not between you and the target. If you shoot anything it'll be an "eye", keep a spare on hand and you won't be with out a chronograph.
