Long version on my blog.

Short version:
My workplace, in their December holiday festivities, has a silent auction for charity every year. In addition to goods, one can donate services or events. On the suggestion of a coworker the year before last, I put in a day at the range with me, as an item on which to bid.

Yesterday, took the winning bidder and two of her friends (I covered her range fees, they got their own) to the NRA HQ range.

Since I work in a building that's infested with hoplophobes, this served as good PR :D

How did it go? Had they shot before? Were they any good?

You get an additional +1 if you are a single male.

All three were brand-new. Hit the link in my first post, for the long version. I'm hitched, and so was one of her friends, so no hanky-panky. I had to deal with a bit of flinching and trigger-jerk, particularly when they made the transition from .22 to centerfire. With one, I put my hand under hers for a couple of shots, to prevent a downward flinch. That got her into the black.

I happen to think that bringing people to the range and teaching them is the best way to deal with hoplophobia. Every time I take someone, he or she will tell a bunch of friends. My coworker said today that she was surprised at how normal everyone in the range was -- no snaggle-toothed hillbillies and whatnot.
