Good deal on a P220?

I don't own any Sig's and I was not thinking about picking one up, but I found a LNIB P220 with 3 8rds mags, box and papers for $490.00! Seems like a great deal from what I've seen on Gunbroker and certainly compared to NIB. I'm not too familiar with Sigs, but the DA trigger doesn't seem too bad and of course the SA trigger is very sweet. Are there many options for trigger jobs on these models? I'd like to smooth out the DA trigger just a little and possibly lighten it a little too. Anything else I should know about the P220? Pictures to follow.

I had one like that and liked it very much. It did have a couple of quirks. If it has an unknown history you might want to take the right grip off and inspect/replace the trigger bar spring, which broke on mine. When you reassemble the grips, put clear nail polish or mild thread locker on the screws as they like to loosen. It also does not like to be run dry. Keep it clean and well lubed, especially on the frame rails, preferably with a light grease.

That really is a decent price. I would pick it up. Just to a thorough inspection before you commit to it.

I'd buy it but I already have a P220 SAO. Great solid feel, accurate too.
If you are used to other auto pistols the slide stop can take some getting used to. For the price, jump on it.

Thanks for the info. Any good smiths out there to work on the DAO trigger? It's really not too bad, on par with my CZ PCR.

Looks like a very good deal to me.

As to the DA trigger, my experience has been that the 220 DA trigger isn't always up to some other SIG DA triggers, at least in the beginning. Your gun may not have the use yet to know where the DA will end up. Shoot the gun and dry fire it and you might find that you won't be needing a smith.

Don't let it get away. Unless the guts are torn up, looking at the exterior says it was taken care of. I've got 2 Sigs, a P220 Compact and a P239/357sig. I love'em. The P239 was used also. Zero regrets. Remember: after just 1 round even a new gun is used.

Nice. I paid $450 four years ago for my 1996 version. Yours looks to be in the 1994-5 range judging by the serial number.

I wouldn't mess with the internals, just install a lighter hammer spring.

Yes they are I took it to the range today...what sweet shooting pistol! I know Sig's are supposed to be great guns, but I'm truly shocked. I would never have picked one up at full price because I have several 45's and was not too fond of the DA/SA. This pistol changed my mind. I don't think I'll mess with the DA trigger, it seems just fine. I did double tap drills and could easily put both shots in CoM or head of an IDPA target @ 15yrds. I put about 120rds through it today. Only one issue that was caused by me dropping the mag in the mud. I got a piece of mud on the breach face that kept the slide from going into battery. Otherwise it functioned flawlessly. I thought of putting on three dot sights, but I'm inclined to leave it as is for right now. I've ordered 10rd mags, but most places are backordered. :banghead: The only bad part is I don't have any holsters that fit the P220.
