I'd hold out till Colt modernizes and makes, I dunno, a Dragoon. LOL

These are suprisingly nice-to-hold guns. Reminds me...

My a-hole BIL told me how there was a guy at the range who'd fire a .458 Win Mag rifle (you know, the kind that detach retinas!) and shake the place, so he'd go down there with his .50 Walker and REALLY shake the place...

Yeah, whatever...

Would 60 grains put that near a 44 mag type of recoil?

just shooting 30 of tripple 7 is pretty good IMO

I couldnt imagine 40 let alone 60! :what:

Ain't that bad, not the awesome cannon-like experience you'd expect. Certainly NOTHING like a .44mag. handgun! I'd rate it similar to mild .45 Colt.

Ive shot a couple "Deer and Bear" .44 mag rounds from a .44 and a .44 lever action and it was a bit much. I didnt enjoy it

Shooting a WALKER is a very different experience, it is loud, makes a lot of smoke, produces a large muzzle flash but it doesn't hurt the shooter. My first time out I started with 40 gr. and worked my way to 60 and there really isn't that much difference in the recoil which I consider mild in comparison to a .357 mag. or a .44 mag. I normally shoot 40 gr. charges as 60 gr. loads are hard on the wedge and arbor pin. Load it up for a great show but load it down to paper and you will enjoy the King of Black Powder pistols - The WALKER. There is nothing else like it and there will never be.

Yep +1 on fineredmist. 60 grains is a lot of fun, but best not to do it all the time. Oh and not Triple 7 either! Probably more like 50gr of Triple 7. But i agree.....shooting a Walker is a superb experience! After all, shooting BP is like history come to life. I even make my own BP now, as well as casting my own lead, and its a great feeling to be self-sufficient. Making caps is the one thing that i am lacking!

60 grains was certainly too much for one guy's Walker a couple of weeks ago. Everyone stopped to watch who was making all the noise when next thing you know his barrel is flying down the range. The arbour had sheared in front of the wedge. How we laughed.

Oh wow! Almost reminds me of an original!!!
Did he say what powder he used? Mind you, could have been the final shot of years of abuse and already fractured there.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the burst Walker. That poor guy, how is he going to replace the base pin? Till then, his handgun is a paperweight, at least two paperweights.

If my 44 mags tipped the scales at the same weight as the walker it would feel mild also. Tried the Walker at 60 max just for the hey now only shoot 40 grains.

Ditto on the laughing at the misfortune of that shooter.

4 and 1\2 pounds of revolver does a lot to tame recoil. It is almost as heavy as some hunting rifles. The hard part is lifting the thing, shooting it is the easy part.

Now, now, fellas... I'm sure they weren't laughing at his misfortune but at the image of the front of someone's pistol flying off. I just wanna know...

...did he stay on paper? LOL

The Walker should not be pushed to maximum capacity. The Ruger Old Army has (they tested it at Ruger).

Because Ruger uses good steel, they know how to make things heavy duty.

And things as simple as screws. The screws on these guns kill me

The Walker is very pleasant to shoot with 40gr 777 but mine's most accurate with 35gr. I've shot it at 45 and for me that's just the point where the recoil is enough to make it less enjoyable to shoot.

In theory a full Walker load has just about the same muzzle energy as a .357 magnum in a 4 inch barrel. But it's a big ol' heavy sucker so as noted the recoil isn't as bad as you might think.

Laughing at him? That's just mean. Perhaps he'll get to laugh at your misfortune someday.

We did laugh in the nicest possible way. BTW, the gun's owner thought it was funny too. You really had to be there.
