My parents are on their way out here, driving across the country. They were in LAs Vegas on Father's Day. I got to talk to my dad, but I'm planning on giving him his father's day gift when he gets here. I have a Beretta 92FS that has an American flag on the slide. I've never fired it and I am thinking of giving it to him for Father's Day. It's either that or some John Wayne DVDs. I have three other handguns, so I wouldn't miss the Beretta. Is it okay to give a used, but unfired, Beretta as a gift?

Provided this is a legal question and not moral:

I AM NOT A LAWYER, THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVISE. I'M A SOCIAL WORKER (NOT EVEN A GOOD ONE). READER ASSUMES ALL RISK.

What state do you live in? Some states allow such transfers, some don't. IIRC here in Ohio you can just give it to him as a gift and be done with it (as long as you know him not to be prohibited from owning one in the first place).

Morally speaking: It is OK to give your Dad a used gun, I'd sure like one!

Hope this helps, and allways follow the law.

Its a great idea.

My dad's stepkids (both adults sort of) chipped in and bought him a 15 year old Ruger Blackhawk .357.

I checked it out and it was in unfired condition stainless 6 1/2 inch barrel and finger groove rubber grips.

My dad was supposed to buy it but the step kids jumped in and got it for him.

I went and tried it out with my dad and brought out the Spas 12.

We blasted targets on his back acre for about 2 hours.

It was a perfect way to spend fathers day.

As far as legality goes you can always sell the beretta to him for a penny and get a reciept.
