I'm looking for some a good LED light for an AR15- double AA would be great. Seems hard to find a product that isn't a total ripoff in this area. I don't see the need for the huge lumens or throwing numbers that most people seem to want, I just want LED and a long battery life.

the LED from TSI actually works great.
i have subjected it to all sorts of horrible abuse and it keeps on ticking. lumens is about 45, battery is one cr32 lithium (surefire battery), last for hours. i have subjected it to -30 freezing temps (i had to put the my sig p229 with one on in the freezer once), 120 deg in the car baking in the sun, all sorts of bumps and bruises.... still ticking.

actually, i ahve several that i bought. i don't use all of them. if you want one you can order it from TSI or you can buy one from me for what I paid for it, $35.

so you want a weak, flood light on a rifle capable of hits at 500+meters?

a Streamlight TRL is probably the best led that doesn't say Surefire on it.

Get one of the clamps the mounts to a rail and holds most flash lights and then get a surefire G2. Much cheaper than buying a dedicated weapon light. I think you can get the clamp from CAA.

So you want poor battery life and worse reliability for something you're never going to need to use beyond 50 meters anyway?

hey kid, you should read a bit more and learn a few things before you ridicule others. You clearly have no idea what a weapon light is capable of, nor any understanding of rechargable Li-ion cells. you want to talk about reliability? how many rounds have you fired from a carbine in the dark with a light mounted?

80% margins? crap?

go away.

Streamlight TLR-1: Great LED weapon light for $116.37

I ordered mine from this vendor and own two. Useful for most railed pistols, shotguns, or rifles.

2 x CR-123 Lithium batteries / 80 lumens...in practical terms, these lights will reach out about 35 yards in dark woods, handily cover anything from my house to the curb, and light up any possible line-of-sight inside of my house or yard.

I like having the LEDs as I don't wear PVS-14s at home, prefer the natural white light, and was specifically looking to get away from xenon/halogen bulb burnout and breakage.

The light is compact, lightweight, not overly expensive, and every bit as good as my handheld Surefires (and is comparable in performance to my issued SureFire 951).

I get the impression you are looking for a general purpose short range combat light for home defense (that won't break the bank). The TLR-1 will work just fine. I run one on my issue Beretta and keep the other at home for my personal AR. You can mount using Daniel Defense or Yankee Hill offset flashlight mounts which will put the controls right at your support hand thumb when using a vertical foregrip. Alternatively, tape pressure switches are available from the same site that sells the light. CopQuest is GTG.

You mentioned that you wanted long battery life and AA capability. CR123 Lithiums are going to last forever running LEDs and will not go dead in cold weather (unlike AA batteries). It's a consideration if you ever find yourself outdoors in the winter or leaving the weapon in a cold car.

BTW: I am issued SF 910A & 951 for my M4A1 at work. They are rather spendy. I also have a very powerful IR/White weapon spot that WILL illuminate out at 500 yards. It too is quite spendy ($2800+). I've been using most of the better SF versions for many years, but am very satisfied with the TLR-1.

There is a lot of junk out there for less than $40 and a lot of good lights for $250 and up. To date, the Streamlight TLR-1 is the only satisfactory LED weapon light I've found that delivers $250-$350 performance level for less than half the money.

Hope this helps.

If you want to be condescending to others... why don't you go ahead and tell us just what spotlight you have mounted on your AR that is effective to 500+ meters... Gecko45, is that you?

how many rounds have you fired from a carbine in the dark with a light mounted?

Plenty.

Junky's point wasn't as far out of line as you seem to believe, highorder.

Hush junior, the big people are talking.

Go answer questions that weren't asked in someone else's thread.

I think I'm going to go ahead and order one of these too and play around, for some reason I was only thinking of them only as handgun lights, but actually this might fit my needs perfectly.

They are $89 on LAPG, best price I've found so far
