Why?!?!?!?

Why would someone do this?

It may not be the best pistol in the world but it is shootable and deserves to be used. This looked really strange and I thought I would share it with you all.:D

Wow, the ultimate in child-proofing. Just hope it doesn't become mandatory in California!

My guess, That was done by a person who does not understand the purpose of a firearm. Dont get me wrong it is nice to have special guns mainly for display, but i would never have a gun on display that was not in full working order.

Is it possible that is one of those display guns, the ones never intended for actual use, with the solid barrels ?

I could imagine doing that if the gun was broken and it had been handed down the family. Say the great-great-grandfathers old derringer had been handed down through generations and it wasn't safe to shoot anymore. It would be cool to put it on the shelf in the gun room to display it.

esheato...

They memorialize a .22 derringer, then try to sell it online? Wouldn't encasing it in glass make it special? But whoever wins doesn't have any sentimental value and threw away $129, at least, on a thing that's worth its weight in BS. Whoever gets this is an idiot...

And, since this was a genuine, working firearm when it was encased in the liquid Lucite, the ATF still considers this a real gun, and therefore it must be transferred to you thru an FFL licensee. As such, it must be shipped to an FFL holder of your choice.

I'd kind of like one of those bullet prisms. That's pretty cool.

As for the gun, yes, I think it's kinda dumb. I can see if it was a really old, really cool gun that couldn't be shot anymore...

Which is worse...

...Two shots from a derringer, or being hit by that thing? Especially on one of those sharp corners? ;)

I think it's the work of a gun newbie. Someone said, "You need to get a brick of .22", and, well... :p

It's a Davis. It's not in working order.

I've got about 200 rounds thru my D-32 and it is in as good of shape as when I bought it (used).

Goes bang everytime I pull the trigger.

Guess I'll stick with my "broken" gun.

No, it isn't my carry piece, I just play with it at the range.

I'd prefer seeing it encased in concrete and sunk in a lake, but I guess sealed in lucite would make a decent second choice. ;)

Am I the only one that thinks it might be a decent conversation piece on a desk?

I'd tend to lean towards the bullet rather than the gun though... I'd pay $50 for a lucite pyramid with expanded 380, 9mm, 357SIG, 40S&W and 45ACP Ranger bullets.

I kind of like it. It isn't like he took a rare/valuable pistol out of circulation to do that to. It would make an interesting bookend.

I seem to recall that Sandia National Lab was doing some tests a few years back on metal detectors and baggage screening technology. They were getting bids on various guns from local shops. I heard that they were encasing the guns in clear lucite to prevent any "accidents". They were looking at a lot of the cheaper and smaller guns as well as Glocks. Maybe that's where this thing came from?
