Good News: 50 yds. 1 1/2" groups. Bad News: 870 is not feeding.

Took the 870 out today to test slugs. Federal Classics yielded 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inch groups.

Winchester Super X slugs from Wally World turned in 1 1/2 inch groups with monotonous regularity. The catch is that I had to load the dang things single shot. Will not feed into the chamber. What the heck could this be? It feeds the cheap Federal shot loads, Federal slugs and Remington reduced recoil buckshot smooth as silk!

We put the calipers on the Winchester slugs and they measured exactly the same as the other loads. I'm stumped.

Who ever heard of an 870 not feeding factory ammo?

Try them slugs through a different weapon, as Duke said.

Every blue moon or two there's an ammo/weapon incompatability that's utterly inexplicable. Had a co-worker's Model 24 Savage FTF AA loads but function perfectly on everything else. He just didn't use AAs.

This is one of the reasons I advocate using your "Serious" ammo during part of your practice.

There's probably another load out there that will turn in tight groups. Keep looking.

Each shotgun is a law unto itself, but I've had good results with Federal Forster style slugs, both Rottweil and KO Brennekes, and those Winnies.

Also, run a few hundred more rounds through that newish 870 and then try the Winchesters again.

HTH....
