Good or bad (Taurus)

Buddy has one with over 600 rds though it with no hiccup. I don't like the feel of it at all. I do own a Taurus though not this model so its not a slam on the brand.

I like mine PT1911B immensely and never have experienced any problems with it of which to speak. I did need a little time to become accustomed to the Heinie sights but after a short period of time I was as comfortable with them as the traditional three-dot sights. I also changed the factory plastic grips out for a set of rubber wraparound Hogues which feel better to my hands and IMO, improve the aesthetics.

I like it so much that I want to acquire a second PT1911 at some future point.

I couldn't help but LOL when I saw all the gold-plated components over the chrome-shiny stainless. Reminds me of the gold AK the prince of Liberia owned in the movie "Lord of War". Are you making a rap video or something?

Giggity Giggity

No rap video. I just like the way that the gun looked. The gold+ the grip attracted me. I know that it isn't real gold, I just hope that the gold don't flake on me after 200 rounds lol.

I'm not a big fan of the look, but Taurus builds some quality pistols and their 1911 is actually very well made, with a number of features that would be fairly costly if you built a custom gun.

Promise me, though--if you buy that pistol, you gotta get one of these to go with it:

Junk.

Their guns are either hit or miss.

That's a pretty broad statement. Back in days of yore Taurus had some quality issues, but their production methods are now state-of-the-art, and there are very few problems with them. As far as their 1911 is concerned, I've only heard positive reviews.

LMAO. I'll make sure that I'll do that.

I spent a long time (weeks) looking at a Taurus, specifically the 92SSM-17.

But the more I looked, the more I found a line truly split of about 50/50 in terms of the brand reputation.

Mike's right though, a company can change, and working past that point is that it will take a long time for the reputation to come around the other side.

So, with the full understanding that you'll only hear about bad news, I looked specifically for people that had to send their guns back. Of those folks, I found very few people with anything good to say about the service turn-around time, and many people spoke of needing multiple passes through Taurus's service department. That doesn't bode well for Taurus's service side.

Dig a bit more and you find many _dealers_ that won't accept Taurus service requests (i.e., batch sending service orders to save $$$ on shipping costs). But then, if dealers _stopped_ offering that (meaning that they once did), it tends to imply that there are a lot of returns happening. Hmmm...

So, finally, I leveraged these times - economic and Obama Worried - and hit up my favorite gun shop looking to see what they had in stock. Figuring that if a gun is inexpensive _and_ good, then it should be gone.

That P92 is a 17+1 9mm at $414. Why do they have any in stock?

Yeup, it could be because of posts like this one basically saying "no" to Taurus, but you have to get your info from somewhere, and I'm comfortable in my decision to have said no.

fwiw, while I use the Internet a LOT for research, I also talked face-to-face to many humans that I'd trust with my life. I got a couple "ehh, they seem to have a large number of lemons", one "we won't carry them" (local shop owner), and everyone else was "I sold mine" or "I wouldn't buy one".

Check out my old post mine went out and now I'm waiting for a new one from Taurus but it was a good shooter accuracy wise. Mine went down on shot 481 but from what I understand it's the luck of the draw some are great some are not.

I have owned a good bit of Taurus pistols. I had the 40 cal version the PT940 and loved it. It shot very well, looked great, felt great in my hand and never had any problems. Just yesterday bought a new model 24/7 Pro. I love Taurus and their whole line. I would trust my life to a Taurus over a glock or any other pistol any day. Their quality has continued to climb and their features are excellent for the price.

I have a PT 917c with about 400 rounds through it....from cheap russian 9mm and a clip of NATO rounds.
No problems
About 20 years ago I had a 66 .357
put over 1k round through it an sold it to a friend and he still has and would guess would have 3k rounds through it.No problems.
I Like Taurus pistols and have had more problems from Walthers and Smiths
than the Boys from Brazil

I own several taurus pistols and plan to own several more... they are quality guns. well worth the price you pay... better quality than many more expensive guns..

Don't know that particular model, but I own two Taurus handguns, a Model 94 .22 revolver and a PT 99AF 15-shot 9mm semi-auto, the Beretta 92 clone with adjustable sights.
I bought them used five or six years and have shot them plenty, with never a problem. The 99AF is particularly enjoyable to shoot and accurate. I find the DA trigger very useful for concealed carry.
Can't say anything about the Taurus warranty or customer service because I've never needed it.

Well, I have a 24/7 .45 ACP and for what it's worth, I like it, haven't had any problems at all with it. Easy take down, clean, and reassemble... not the most accurate, but I didn't buy it to shoot competition with it... I got it for home/self defense.

With that said, midiwall, although I agree with your logic I don't necessarily agree with all of your criteria... one critical area that went unmentioned is... How often do you see them in pawn shops?? I've asked the local pawn shops why I never see them.. they've all told me that they don't see them come in very often, and when they do, they get bought soon after hitting the case... hmmm... so those of us that have them, must be keeping them... (for any number of reasons... maybe they like them, maybe they don't...) I would expect to see more of them in pawn shops... like a car... you see a lot of lemons hit the used car lots...

I'm also going to do more research on it. But I think that I'm going to pick it up. If I don't like it (lemon) then I'll just trade it in and hope that I could walk away with another Sigma.

It looks like a short barrel, bobbed hammer PT92/99. I've had a PT99AF for over 20 years with about 20k rounds through it with zero problems.

I had a Taurus 605 revolver. It was a nice gun. It shot very well. Taurus guns are fine. Their fit and finish is sometimes a little scrappy, but they work.

I've always had good luck with taurus hand guns, a friend of mine carries a milliemium pro 45 acp for concealed carry &absolutely loves it, I'd like to get a PT1911 myself.

I have a pt 1911 that I have put about 4000 rounds through so far. No porblems with feeding anythig I give it. No missfires now. I did in the past until I changed the mainspring housing to an arched one with a stronger spring. I am not crazy about allen head screws in the grips. so I changed them to slotted ones. Great pistol so far.
