Gang,

I have been carrying my CDP Pro in a C-TAC IWB holster. I like that quite a bit, but would also like a good OWB holster for when I am wearing something capable of hiding it. OWB is just more comfortable. I have a Galco that almost works, but it seems to let the pistol sit a little too low below the belt line. If I bend over my sweatshirt, jacket, etc. may ride up and reveal the tip of the muzzle. What I need is something that rides a bit higher with little or no muzzle below the belt line, has a good cant to help keep the butt from protruding in back, and keeps the pistol close to my body to prevent printing. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

GR - right up front, I'll say I don't have an answer for you, as I'm looking into OWB holsters myself! I have a CDP too, only it is the 3" Ultra.

I have been investigating options for a while now & can tell you that a high-ride OWB could hurt concealment more than help it. A Pro CDP has the full length grip with a 4" barrel - correct? The higher on the belt it rides increases the tendancy for the gun to want to "flop" over the belt. As the Pro has a full sized grip (as opposed to the compact), that tendancy will increase. With a good holster & proper belt it should never actually tip over the belt - but the grip might pull away from the body.

From what I've read, the high-rides actually work better (for concealment) with revolvers, where the weight of the ammunition is carried in the cylinder which, when the gun is on a belt, is lower than that of a semi-auto carrying all that weight in the grip which is above the belt line.

I'd be interested to see what you find out. Currently, I'm looking at some of the OWB holsters from Horsehoe Leather in the UK, Bulman Gunleather (he's only about a 1 hour drive from me) & Gary Brommeland, from whom I purchased a rig from for a S&W 4516-1 many years ago.

Good luck!

I'm very happy with the Tucker HF1 I recently picked up. High ride and tight to my body, but not so tight that I can't get to it. Quality is top notch.

Said this in other posts, but I'll say it again because I've seen it to be true. Like different pistols don't fit all shooters, different body types don't do well with certain holsters. YMMV.

The Milt Sparks 60TK fits that description, and mine works perfect for me. Last summer I was routinely wearing an untucked cotton t-shirt and shorts, and the 60TK concealed my Kimber CDP with no difficulty.

If I bend over my sweatshirt, jacket, etc. may ride up and reveal the tip of the muzzle.
I don't know of a belt holster that will completely eliminate this possibility; if it's that much a problem for you, then IWB may be your only hope. However, to again praise the 60TK, in cooler weather I usually wear a sweatshirt and blue jeans, and I never have trouble concealing my Kimber CDP.

You didn't say whether your particular Galco holster is the "Concealable" model for 1911s.

I have one. OWB, butt forward cant, and rides close to the body when you cinch your gun belt (fits 1 1/2" belts).

The Concealable also doesn't collapse after your gun is drawn, which makes for easy re-holstering. Last I checked, it was offered in black or havana brown leather.

The Concealable is my favorite CCW holster for my Delta Elite.

HTH. :)

Second vote for the Tucker HF1.

I also like a Tucker paddle I have. It works like a yaqui slide but is a paddle, in other words the slide and barrel stick out the end.

I just bought 2 holsters from Dillon to fit the commander and officer size 1911..top quality leather and fits tight to the body just fine...........

I like the Galco Concealable, it is a good solid design. I have three of them. My favorite though is the Alessi CQC/S. They are outstanding in every way.

Thanks for the replies! The Galco I have is the Fletch model. It is just a bit too low, other than that a nice holster. I can use it with pretty long untucked shirts, but a jacket or shorter shirt just doesn't cover enough. I will take a look at the models suggested above. That Milt Sparks design looks like it sits a bit higher.
