I carry a Springfield 1911-A1 Mil-Spec .45 ACP. Love the gun.

I need a new holster for it, though. I only carry OWB.

I have a very high quality "Ross Leather" Belt-Slide Holster. It is very "minimalistic" holster - in that it is basically just a loop of thick leather that I slide the gun down into.

I don't like suicide straps on holsters to hold the gun securely, but this holster is causing two different problems for me.

1: The gun doesn't ride high enough on the belt, and sometimes the muzzle of the gun is visible at the bottom of the cover garment I sometimes use.

2: The copper rivets on my Levi's jeans make marks on the gun. I don't like that.

I am sort of looking for a holster that protects the bottom part of the gun, does not have any retention (suicide) straps - and holds the gun high - as high as possible on the belt.

I am probably not going to pay more than $30 or $40 for this rig.

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TD

The price range you specify limits your choices. Don Hume makes good holsters for the money and they have some around that price range. Another good (reasonably) inexpensive holster maker is Kirkpatrick Leather. Their UnderCover is a high rider and is around fifty bucks.

what is it with cheap holsters? you buy a handgun that costs between $500-$1500 for ccw, you spend nearly as much on ammo to break the gun in, and then you want to only spend less than $50 on the holster?

Yes. That's right. I don't want to spend more than $50 for a holster. A quality holster can be had for much less than $50.

If that bothers you, please email me and I will be glad to provide you with my mailing address where you can send me a check for any amount you wish. You can also send the holster of your choice, in lieu of cash. I will be glad to give you my personal opinion as to its quality and utility. :)

Thanks to everyone for the great responses!

The Don Mernickle PS6 looks perfect. I will definately check it out.

Thanks again,

The High Noon "Need For Speed" rides very high, but it's $61.

I think you'll find the number of true quality leather belt holsters you can buy for under $50 can be counted on one hand.

I agree with the better leather suggested. Lots of good leather, at affordable prices. High Noon comes to mind -many others.

That said Uncle Mike's Super Belt slide #6319-0 Size 19 fits your gun. This is the "Mirage" (the next nylon holster revolution). I forget the price, but it's not expensive, holds up.I Keep one around for a loaner, had it for years, survived range, and hunting uses. Mag carriers avail to match. You have a choice of black--or --black .;)

I agree. I *do* have some high quality gun leather, but I just *hate* spending that money!

I'm sure I could find a suitable one for $60 or more - but I was hoping that someone out there knew of one that was both good and less than $50.

Thanks again for all the helpful comments.
