I normally carry a compact 1911, and for 5 years a full-size, but lately I have been having to wear more in the way of polo shirts and khaki pants. I want to get something that would fit in a pocket or the zippered pocket behind the front pocket in some columbia or docker pants. I think a rohrbaugh is more than I want to spend for a BUG, besides being too little. I looked at scandiums, but they are thick in the cylinder area. And way too small in the grip area. I'm not sure if the 380 is enough, but I am completely unfamiliar with small guns.
Part of the problem is I am not small. I am about 30 lbs overweight right now but when I am lifting my thighs are around 26 inches. I really can't put anything in my pocket without it showing, unless they are 4 inches too big in the waist. I guess I could just start wearing a sport coat, but I already feel like a dork not wearing jeans and a t-shirt, which I am used too.
Any recommendations? I am just trying to be prepared, just in case. My friends ask "why would you carry a gun, you are big enough". I try to explain that I am concerned about my family/friends.

Rohrbaugh to little?? ahh dude that is kinda the point :)

If ya want small and low-priced then I would go with the KT p32 or the P3At...I own and carry both without compliant..

If you are worried about printing in the front pocket, the I would suggest getting either a rear pocket holster or a front pocket holster with an anti-print shield

I wanted a gun for my front pants pocket. 9mm's that are sized for that are the Kahr PM-9 and the Kel Tec P-11. I didn't want to spend what the PM-9 costs. I don't like Kel Tecs. I chose an old style Charter Arms Undercover .38 and a Mika pocket holster. If you look you might notice a slight bulge but you don't know it's a gun.

I think a .380 is enough. If you investigate the Kel Tec P-3AT, and are satisfied then that may work for you because it is small and flat.

I really like my P3AT. Its small, sleek and fits in the pocket just fine.

Its a handful to shoot. Gotta keep both mits on the bugger to keep it in place but overall its a joy to shoot. Accuracy is acceptable for its intended use.

For $200 you cant go wrong.

P-3AT

My P-3AT is always with me, except where prohibited by law.

It sits in a K&D 2-in-1 convertible holster, which works in front or rear pocket.

I know it's always there, even though I can barely tell it's there! :)

I carry a Kel-Tec .380 a lot. Actually I sometimes carry two. One in each front pocket. Really light and thin guns. One of them has been fired over four hundred rounds with no failures. When not carrying a KT, I usually carry a .38 S&W model 60 in front pocket or ankle Triple K leather holster.

Why not a revolver? A good pocket holster should hide the outline of what it actually is (looks more like a wallet or checkbook or something). 5 rounds of .38 +P or even .357mag makes for one heck of a pocket gun or BUG.
After that, a buddy of mine has a Keltec in .380, and its easy as pie to pocket carry.
PS:
A .380 in the hand beats two .45's in the safe. Don't be afraid to get the .380 if its all you can carry!

Thanks for the input

I went to A&P Arms here in VA Beach and got a Kel-Tec P3AT in .380 today. It seems to shoot ok, but it is so small it's kind of hard to get a decent grip. But as someone said, better a .380 on you than a .45 at home.

P-11 is a good choice. if you want bigger than .380, you get 12+1 of 9mm, weighs 22 ounces loaded, lots of pocket holsters available, fits on your front pocket. it does make a bit of a bulge, but most people won't notice. won't break the bank either.

P-3AT w/pinkie extension

A P-3AT loaded with Cor-Bon is hard to beat. If you have large hands install a pinkie extension (preferable NAA) for better control and to decreasing limpwristing.
