I've been a Leathermen multi-tool guy for a while, but when I saw the Gerber Suspension on sale at Target for less than $15, I picked it up. Nice spring-loaded pliers, solid lock-up on the other tools. I haven't used it a lot yet, but so far, so good.

It was marked as a clearance item, down from around $30. They're around $35 or so online.

I think I paid about $25-30 for mine a couple of years ago from Walmart. They are not too bad at their job and you can't argue the price. I used it in the lab and in the field on a number of occasions, as well as in the garden equipment such as the tractor. Right now it main job is to assist me with telescoping, where I throw it on a carabiner that attaches to my belt and use it in assembly since I need screwdrivers, pliers and a bottle opener of course.

The pros. It does have a really tough finish to it. Seems to be a titanium nitride coating and will resist just about anything. I like the spring loaded pliers. For some reason you don't see too many multitools that are spring loaded. All the tools on it can lock in place, and the lock is pretty damn strong. I also like how it has pictures of the tools on the side of the multitool.

The cons. They really need some bigger blades on them. The saw in particular is totally useless. The opener on my main blade broke off really quickly, which makes it a pain to open that blade. Still a little epoxy later and it was stronger than originally. The main problem I found is the pliers handles are way too thick and takes some large hands to use effectively. I struggle when they are fully extended to close the pliers.

Given the choice I would go with the Swiss Tool RS as my multitool of choice, but as an el cheapo multitool I can throw in my bag, the Gerber Suspension does an okay job. Came with a magnetic screwdriver set too.

The saw isn't really useless for making fuzz sticks. What else are you really gonna use a saw for anyhow? :)

I got one for Christmas. Great looking tool, nice selection of items. I'd put it against most any other similar sized tool. However, it's awfully heavy for pocket carry so it'll stay in my bag for school.

Also, I have no idea how to use the can-opener feature. I actually broke the lock-up on it trying to open a can the same way you would with a p-38 army can opener. It's off for warranty work right now, I wish they would have covered the $5 it took to ship the darn heavy thing!
