I was at a local gun shop yesterday and they had a Springfield TRP Operator marked down to $1039. The kid (and I do mean Kid like maybe 20) behind the counter said this was a steal and they marked it down from $1300 because it has been sitting in the case for so long.

He took her out of the case because he was drooling over her too and man oh man does that baby feel sweet in your hand. I even like the grip tape type of grips that were on her and they had a mini Surefire (M3) rail light snapped on the rail. He had mentioned that they might be able to make me a deal and throw in the Surefire to go with it. Plus he said it came with four mags and all of them had that rubberized bottem.

So what do you guys think is this a good deal or not? I don't have the money right now, but I have a feeling that it might still be sitting there in a month or two so I think I have time. If it does move though I think that I can get them down to that price from now on if they were to order one.

I also asked the guy what % of mark up do they put on there guns and he shifitly went around that question :uhoh: . So I then managed to get out of him what kind of employee discount they recieve. I figured that a good gun shop owner would at least for loyal employees order guns for them at cost plus shipping. Well that was not the case and he said that they get guns at 10% above cost plus shipping :scrutiny: . Hmmmm, I said (which is true) that there is another gun shop about 7 miles down the street (actually closer to my house) that will order guns at 10% above cost plus shipping for regular customers. Granted this other shop has much fewer guns in stock and not nearly as much in accessories and reloading stuff.

Well that is why I am asking about this TRP Operator because this shop seems to have a higher mark up on guns then other shops. I also think that it might have to do with the fact that they have a indoor pistol range, outdoor bow range, and a gunsmithing shop on hand.

Thanks for any advice,

Well I did my research today on the internet and mainly these forums and it seems that this is a awesome price for a NIB TRP Operator. I know that a lot of you may think that I am lying about it, but believe me I am not and now I know how $1039 for a TRP Operator sounds rediculosly low and there must be something wrong with it. Well there is nothing wrong with it from the initial inspection, but I am thinking of going back when the owner is around and asking him why the price is too good to be true.

P.S. Does anybody here have $1100 I can borrow. I can make $100 a week payments. :D

The answer to your question is perhaps best answered by another one ...

Is this a gun you REALLY want? If the answer is, "yes" then it's worth cosidering going ahead. But I would have to want a particular gun VERY, VERY badly before I would consider something that costly. The proposed price apparently is a good one, but it isn't worth zip if you could get something lesser that would be satisfactory for your needs.

If you decide the answer is, "yes" then start dealing with the shop owner. Do you have anything you could use as a trade-in? Could you put down a substantial down payment and then do the rest with payments? Think of alternatives.

Otherwise you will have to wait and hope for the best. Good Luck. :D

I just did a little checking around and that price is considerably below wholesale. Better grab it if you are serious about it.

It's probably discounted because Springfield is"dropping" the operator model with full length rail for their ne MC Operator that has a "half" rail, That being said, that is an EXCELLANT price for an operator. I had one once and could kick myself for letting it get away. I gave $1275 for mine 3 years ago. If your deal was in my local area, I guanrantee I'd find some way to trade for/buy that gun. Don't let it get away. :D

I am currently trying to find ways to have this pistol in my possesion in the next week or so. I hope I can do it as I have been having dreams about it ever since I saw it. I have been wanting to get a 1911 for awhile and I have had my mind set on the Springfield Black SS loaded model, but for a little bit more money it seems I can have a much more highly regarded 1911 and one that I would probably be happy with for a long time.

Crewchief:

Did you buy it?

If not, I'd greatly appreciate the name and location of the shop.

I'm looking for an Operator. :)

Thanks!
