FYI: Ralph Mroz has a good article about carrying revolvers for self defense in this month's Combat Handguns. Mike Debethencourt(spelling?), former instructor at the Smith and Wesson Academy, and his revolver tactics/reasoning is the subject of the article.

Good stuff. You revolver fans might want to check it out. Also, Mroz's book and video from Paladin Press are recommended, though they aren't about revolvers.

It's a good article. All the reasons I carry a wheelgun. I can conceal the revolver better. I do carry a semi auto at times, but would rather carry a 2 or three inch revolver with enough speed loaders and speed strips.

I took a course at the Academy two years ago this spring, and of the eight students and seven(! they were graduating from the instructor's program) instructors NO ONE carried a revolver. The smallest gun was a Sig P239, and everyone carried in an OWB holster. I bet everyone -- INCLUDING MYSELF-- wanted to shoot well, so they carried a mid- to large-frame semiauto instead of the pocket rockets they normally carry. I've got a 642 with me right now. What a shame.

What's the point of training if you don't train with your regular carry gun and holster? Unless it was just a pure competition-type setting, of course...but I always thought it'd be wise to train with your carry gun, and carry what you trained with.

lend, this drives me around the bend as well. You go to skul and you see Captain Tactical with his USP in a mall ninjaesque, go-fast thigh rig and draped with magazines. At lunch break this same guy tells you "well, all you need (ah, that phrase) is a J frame stuck in your pocket." Why aren't you training with the J frame stuck in your pocket then?

Everyone wants to carry a little gun, but fight with a big one. Dance with the one that brung ya.
