The Finn M-39's are reputed to be the most accurate of all the Mosins. You can pick them up from Wholesale Guns and Ammo ( http://www.gunsnammo.com/ ).
Honestly, none of them were very good. Weak, and weird cartridge, and not all that well made. You can, of course, send the better ones down here to me.
i've got a niec little (well, not so little) finn M39 and it's a real good shooting rifle. As accurate as one could ask from a 60 year old rifle with 60 year old iron's rather than a nice new scope. I'd trust my life to it's accuracy I dare say Now my M44 carbine.... that's another story.
The top one is a 1942 Sk.Y Civil Guard rifle, the bottom a 1942 Belgian Barrel (AKA B-Barrel).
Here's my third M39, a 1970 "Sneak". She's got worn bluing and a big 'ol stock repair just under the bolt, but I love her just the same. She's still real accurate too.
I just got two M91/30s from Aztec and I am very happy with them. Mirror bores, 100% refinished metal and 97-99% refinished wood. They look like new guns not like refinished beaters. All matching numbers on one and all matching except mag floor plate on the other. I think they are the same guns that AIM is selling but Aztec checks the bores and headspace before they sell them. I am more than happy. I usally order from AIM but I was not sorry I tried Aztec.
SOG needs SERIOUS customer service help! I tried to order some other guns from them but the women on the phone was so unprofessional, I actually started to feel sick to my stomach. When she answered, she was laughing and talking to some other woman in the background. She continued to cackle and talk for a few seconds and then when she turned her attention to me, she had a snotty voice. I asked about a couple of the guns that were in the last ad and she made some comments that weren't any of her business to ask and then after all that, she told me they were out of them. First one and then the other. I was going to ask about another gun but the conversation was pi$$ing me off and I just said thanks anyway and hung up. I don't like the way they treat people on the phone at SOG and it makes it very hard for me to do any business with them. I can call AIM and get polite, professional help and often the price is less than SOG. They are both in Ohio so I don't see why one is staffed by losers and one is staffed by friendly people that make you want to shop with them. How does SOG stay in business?
An assegai is a short heavy spear used for stabbing BG's. It was the favored weapon of the Zulus when Shaka was their ruler. As you have read, they pretty much cleaned the clocks of everybody they ran into until they got to a place called Rourke's Drift..
So how does one go about determining whether a Mosin is Finninsh or not?
I ask because there's a gun shop here in OKC that specializes in Mil-Surp weapons. The owner doesn't sell crap but I've learned to my chagrin that he is not above stretching the truth to what ever limit it needs to be stretched to make a sale. I've caught him doing it a number of times. He no longer does that with me when it comes to pistols and revolvers but I know next to nothing about Mosin's and since I've developed an interest in historical rifles since acquiring my Garand I'd prefer to go into the shop in question armed to the teeth with knowledge.
What armoredman said. There are volumes of info on Mosins out on the web. After I took my 91/30 apart, I got a magnifying glass & spent some time first looking at the rifle & then scrolling thru the 7.62x54r website.
