I'm plan on working there for a while. Any ideas of good pistol and/or rifle ranges out that way?

I was hoping there would be a nice outdoor range on the way to Rockford:D

i have been to jr's shooting sports in aurora. don't care for them too much.
but i do like gat guns. they are closer to where you will be going. right off (north)of interstate 90 on rt 25

What exactly would someone from Illinois need to shoot at a Wisconsin range, or buy ammo?

Does McMiller rent handguns? I didn't see anything on the site about it but seems like a very attractive alternative..

Shooting Ranges in NW Burbs

"NW Suburbs" is kinda a big geographic area nowadays, but the link above should give you a complete list.

I use the indoor pistol range at Maxon's in Des Plaines a lot, but lately there have been LINES of people waiting for the next open range booth. I just turn around and walk out.

This weekend I'm going to go to the outdoor rifle range in Bristol, WI, and see what that place is like. It's about 30 minutes north, just across the border.

The last time I shot there, was about twelve years ago. At that time, they would allow shooters to load only one round in the mag for rifles, and five rounds for handguns. I never got a straight answer as to why these limitations were put in place, but I found it too tedious to shoot there.

I don't know if they still have this policy, but you might want to call them before you go up there. That said, the facility was well organized, with a range officer keeping a good eye on all the shooters.

That's my neck of the woods.

I really like the ranges at Gat Guns, Dundee. They have 3 ranges that allow you to shoot at 21', 50' and 75'. The people that work there are friendly and the ammo prices are fair. Range fee is $25.00 and the offer a good selection of targets.

Buffalo range in Ottawa is all outdoors, but very diversified. The have a pit area where you can shoot anything, from full auto machine guns, pistols, shotguns. Heck, I saw a guy shoot a minature cannon there once. They have two shotgun ranges, a pistol range, a slug gun range and 150 yard. But Buffalo does not sell any ammo. You pay an entrance fee that is good for a full day. You must bring your own targets, no plastic allowed.

Hope that helps.

Aurora has a very nice range? If Pontiac isn't too far for your travels Chief City Shooters has an excellent range and many disaplines of shooting? The State Rifle Ass. range is located near Kankakee Illinois, just south of Chicago.
