I can't find any gun shops I trust out here. I'm not in Gloucester proper, I'm a lot closer to Matthews county and I havent been out in the populated part of Gloucester for a while. Anyone who lives down here know a good shop within 1 hour drive?

I live in Newport News. I've hunted a lot in Gloucester and Matthews, and fish at Beaverdam in Gloucester. Lots to do in that area. Shopping for guns isn't one of them.

Within an hour? You need to come across the York River bridge to the Peninsula.

I'd recommend stopping in at The Quartermaster in Newport News.

Harold Huber owns the joint. He doesn't have a "huge" inventory of guns, but always has some cool stuff. It's worth going there just to see what cool new thing he has. Though he may not have exactly what you want in his case, what he can do is get you incredibly good prices on guns if you are willing to let him order it and wait a few days. His prices are so good that I usually peruse other shops just to look at guns and see how I like them, but buy them from Harold.

The Marksman in Newport News is a pretty good store.

Again, not a lot of stock, but good prices if you order. A few days wait. They have a nice indoor range.

Bass Pro Shops (aka Outdoor World) in Hampton has decent prices.

Green Top in Richmond is a great store.

Probably the biggest selection of any store in the state. The Quartermaster can beat their prices by a large margin, to the point Green Top will not match Quartermaster's price. But they have a huge stock.

That's just a few off the top of my head. There are a few more, but I don't go in them due to a combination of bas prices and rude owners/employees.

If you're coming from the courthouse area, do a quick swing into the Pawn Shop...last time I checked, it was full of slightly used hunting rifles and shotguns...but it is just a resale outlet. As you head down 17, stop in Six Rivers Armory nice new place in a new strip mall in White Marsh, just a couple doors down from the Exquisite Donut Shop...keep heading south, you'll come to Hunter's Haven...a full stock firearms/bow LGS...Paul owns it and Sean is good people...continue on south 17 entering Hayes, you'll see Gloucester Pawn on your right...again, what you see is what you get but folks are friendly and will work with you. Check out advertisers as well on the LGC Forum...once you cross the Coleman and enter York County, you can cut over to the Marksman, between Jefferson and Warwick Blvds...or stay on 17 until you reach Winfree's on your left. You can also hit up the Hampton Gun Show this weekend...Daily Pravda has $1 off coupons...

Used to live in Newport News and did a lot of business with the Marksman (transfers, order, range time). They were always good people when I worked with them.

I'll check it out garand, thanks. I'm coming from the Hartfield bridge into proper Gloucester, passing Hillside that is, dunno where the courthouse is (I'm new to the area, and only here for summer off RCC Warsaw) Thanks guys

Update

Forgot to add...check out the bulletin board of for sale items at LGC in Grafton....also, the Stagecoach Flea Market, on your left as you drive south on US 17, across from Sentara, open Sundays, normally has a few FTF setups, varies all the time though. Come on down to the Hampton Show today, stop by the VCDL table to say howdy!
