July 5, 2004 -- Two good Samaritans were recuperating from gunshot wounds yesterday after they were shot in The Bronx.

The attack may have been in retaliation for the pair stopping a street gang from beating up two teens earlier in the day, police said.

The victims, store clerks Thomas Medina, 29, and José Abreau, 38, were standing outside an auto shop at 1693 Jerome Ave. Friday at around 8:30 p.m. when a gunman opened fire with a .45-caliber pistol.

Both men were hit as bystanders fled in panic.

It was not clear if the victims were the intended targets or if the shooter, believed to be a member of the Bloods, had been aiming at the teens with whom he and a half dozen other pals had brawled two hours earlier, police said.

Medina and Abreau were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

Cops said the shooter was accompanied by another man, and they fled toward Davidson Avenue in University Heights.

hmm...

It's too bad for those guys...
As with most all articles like this, I wish there were more details. Too many unanswered questions lead to a feeling of not hearing the whole story.

I'm assuming most here would feel that this could have turned out differently had the victims been armed?

This couldn't have happened in New York: its citizens are already protected by some of the most prohibitive so-called "gun control" laws in the nation.
Well, then obviously it must be someone else's fault. Their mothers, "Tha Man," lack of religious statuary in the schools, or maybe some other state that doen't have the draconian -- er, I mean "sensible" -- laws that NYC has.

Being armed wouldn't have prevented these fellows from being shot at all. Remember it's a drive by perpetrated by a gang.

What I find interesting is that these Good Samaritans were hunted down by the BG's.
