Saw these for sale, used German paratrooper knives @$35 including shipping.

I've got an original WWII version, wood handled, and it's a good solid knife, but too valuable as a collectible to use. Opens out the front by pressing a lever and turning front down, not spring assisted. Also has a marlin spike which would make it handy for sailing or other rope or cord duties.

Check local laws as it may be considered a "gravity knife".

See it here:

Because it _is_ a gravity knife. The real question is whether those types of knives are allowed where you are.

I like them, though I think I would keep as a collectors piece. Thankfully in MD we do not have gravity knife restrictions on purchase and ownership.

EDIT: For those interested in matters of law, this is a real, true gravity knife, the kind they don't really make anymore. Not the BS "gravity knife" definition so many foolish statutes (like NY) seem to have adopted in their efforts to ban balisongs. But remember that just being a gravity knife does not in and of itself make it illegal to sell, buy, own and/or carry. That is a state and local matter.
