I have a Contender (pre-G2, mid-late '90s production) that I'd like to change the trigger return spring out on. It was clipped by an acquaintance years ago with the understanding that it was only going to be used for silhouette. I'd like to maybe take a crack at hunting with it, but now the trigger is too light for field use at about 8 ounces. I have the Trapper replacement spring set, but realized the references I have do not give detailed disassembly/reassembly instructions. I'd rather not have parts freeze together or have a spring that I was unaware of go flying across the room, never to be seen again. I distinctly remember driving out the wrong pin first when detail stripping the trigger assembly on my Garand. Took forever to get the pin lined back up and get it back in so I could take out the correct one first and not bind up the works! Any recommendations of references available out there? Anyone with experience care to give a quickie lesson? (The above incident notwithstanding, I'm not completely mechanically challenged. Did get all the parts together for my AR lower.) Thanks for any help offered.

Call TCArms. They'll probably send you the manual and any small parts you ask about for free. At least they have done so for me in the recent past...

Do what Chris said. Or...

To remove the Contender's trigger group:

Remove the grip or buttstock as the case may be.

Remove the forend and barrel from the frame.

Remove the screw behind the trigger guard with the big spring around it that is normally concealed by the grip or buttstock.
If it is an "easy open" frame:

Use a 3/32 pin punch (or an appropriately sized nail in a pinch) to tap out the pivot pin whose ends you see in the sides of the frame directly above the trigger. With this pin removed everything needed for doing the trigger job is in the trigger housing which all comes out as one unit.

Thank you for the replies. I haven't seen my manuals in the past several moves, but I don't recall it having the details I really needed. Thank you for the instructions. Haven't tried the installation yet (time:( ), but it should go fine. Thank you again!
