M1 Garand owners, I need your help

I detail stripped my Garand to clean all the cosmoline out. Now I'm trying to reassemble the trigger group, and I can't get the darned trigger pin back in! I have the hammer spring housing facing the correct side, but the trigger pin won't fully seat.

Help!

That will work, but I have found it easier to hold the housing like a pistol, with the web of my hand on the front (where the man's thumb is in the illustration), then use my index finger to squeeze on the sear like a trigger.
