last week my station responded to a structure fire. well, somewhere between putting on my turnouts, and conducting overhaul, my faithful Native managed to work its way out of my pocket and fall between my turnouts and my pants ultimately being lost somewhere in the structure. i did not realize it until i was back at the station, cleaning off my gear. It was a really good knife that I got on recommendation from the folks right here at THR. Too bad it is probably in a heap of ash and ceiling insulation in the county dump.

Any way, went to Gander Mountain to purchase another one just like it only to find that they did not have that particular Spyderco. What they had, however, was a stainless steel handled Delica!! I am knife ignorant compared to ya'll, but man does this knife feel (and look good) great in the hand. lost a Native, found a Delica, and just as happy. except for the losing a perfectly good knife part. Anyway, not sure if this is an old Spyderco standby, or a newer model, (again, knife ignorant here) but this is a really great knife, and just thought i would pass along the info. really pumped about this knife purchase!!!!

The orginial old plastic handle Delica is one very hard knife not to like.

Especially when price, abuse, & chance of loss is high.

rcmodel,

that is exactly how i felt about the Native. I think it was 40.00 to $50.00 when i got it, and that ammount of money bought a whole lotta knife! this steel Delica was a good bit more than what i gave for the Native, but i am not gonna worry about a few dollars more when the knife is what i want and the quality is there.

bikerdoc,

yes, i am going to purchase a black handled Endura shortly. they had one next to the Delica that I bought. maybe one day i will get another Native. it certainly was a good knife.

typically, i am a Buck, and Case knife junkie. but Spyderco has really turned me on to clipped, tip up, one handed opening style of knife. (the native inspired my Buck AVID purchase) i will always love the history and styling of classic slip joints, and standbys like the Buck 110, but there is something to be said for the ease of operation and accessability of modern knives like the Spydercos/BM's/Buck Avid.

Oh! Shows how much I know.
I was thinking that the Native was the one that cost $150+ several years ago.

Never mind!

hey rc,

you may be correct. the Native i had was purchased bout a year ago, so it may have been introduced at the $150.00 mark and lowered by the time i got it at WalMart. i do not know how long they have been out, or what they originally retailed for.

I was agreeing with what you said about the Delica, but I was meaning that i felt the same way about the Native. they are both excellent knives and a good value. you get a ton of knife for a half ton price!

thanks for the comments rc!

You been peeking at my collection or reading my mind?

Welcome to the addiction my friend.

ha ha,

no i haven't been peeking. i guess we will just have to settle on that great minds think alike!

glad to know there are other knife "addicts" bikerdoc. i go back and forth between classics and modern marvels. right now, the edge goes to classic in my meager collection. speaking of, i NEED some more Amber Bone Case Slip joints with the CV blades. only got one, and it needs company.
