I was browsing the Sportsman's Guide today just procrastinating from grading a mountain of papers and I see that Counter Sniper Scopes are now USGI and you can get the 3-25x56 model with "14 total lenses" for the bargain basement price of $689.97. They originally cost the US government $2,997.99!!!, what a deal!

I had forgotten about Counter Sniper and figured they had just gone out of business by now. Who buys these things? Their website is good for a chuckle. The specs read like they are straight out of a bad sci-fi novel, 24-step Bertrillium-Zantitium coatings, Hydroshear ice displacement coating, rare earth sealed, viton sealed etc. Also check out that reticle, total awesomeness.

Every time I thumb one of these I`m reminded of the old Herters catalog.

Herters claimed every item was "claimed best of the best by the only top pro who knew up from down in the field", "voted perfect in every way by professional African trackers", "made of the finest steels processed by the lost art of the pharohs own smiths".
I loved reading them and dreaming big dreams as a kid....:D:D

I looked at these things 2 times at gun shows before I looked them up online. Funny thing, they never have a price on them at the gun show. Its always a "This is a $3000 scope, but we can give it to you for about $850 today only." yeah right

Just got the SG shooters catalog in the mail today, I have never ordered from them don't know why I get em but they just go in the bathroom for a quick look through every now and then. I did see the scope mentioned in the catalog the recticle looked to busy too me.

You mean this one:rolleyes:

You know that as soon as you install this scope on your rifle you automatically turn into a sniper with all the skills you need;)

I love descriptions like these....
Now we "civvies" can nab this rare offer of military overruns at mind-boggling savings! Choose your power: the 3-25x56 mm, 3-9x42 mm or the 2-16x44 mm Tactical Scope.

Covert Matte Black Hardcoat

It makes me feel tacticool just reading it!

someone buy one and tell us how it performs!!!!! hahahah....good bathroom reading along with the jc whitney or harbor freight catalog.

I bet Gecko45 has one:evil:! Honestly that is so tacticool that us regular civilians could never use it to it's fullest potential... btw, I would probably get shot my the enemy sniper while I was trying to figure out that reticle! :barf:

Oh well, you know the saying... "A fool and his money are soon parted"

Yep those are some of the best "sittin on the pot" catalogs you can get. Too bad the slick paper isn't more "User friendly".

Aw come on you know you bought stuff or you wouldn't keep GETTING the catalogs.

I bought a pair of nice gore tex camo bibs for $19 last spring. So that is why I always look, it ain't like the good old days of russian and US surplus though.

i bought a brand new soviet era mine detector, with about a 9' extension or so that works under water.

i loaned it to my metal detecting friends who says it works great.

Yowza!!! I had a siezure just looking at that reticle. That's, um, busy. Sportsman's Guide also recently had, I kid you not, Tactical Coffee.

I am going to shamlessly copy that:D

What happens when your counter sniper scope fails and you get sniped.. can your next of kin get a refund?

In defense of Sportsman's Guide - They buy up closeouts, last years fashions, factory seconds, and the remaining inventory of businesses gone under and sell them at discounts.

If this scope doesn't sell, they'll keep marking it down until it does so you all will eventually be able to buy one for about $50. if they're not all gone at $100. :)

The scope is absolutely laughable :what:

I still buy other things from sportsmans guide, though. Their surplus ammo is reasonably priced by today's standards. It's better than some other catalog companies that have completely absurd prices on ammo. You all know who I'm talking about.

That's what they used to be, now they sell regular stocked items also (see the latest model EOTechs). Hopefully these things are closeouts though. Though if there are people out there that fall for all that BS I guess they deserve it.

+1
I give them props for creativity and amusing product descriptions.

I used to buy ammo from them and some milsurp accessories like holsters and mag pouches, but haven't in about four or five years.

I'll admit it. I buy ammo and targets from them all the they almost always have the lowest price on AK ammo and IPSC targets around. Every now and then I buy something else from them, you just gotta learn to ignore all the "sales tactics" they use.

Bottom line, If I'm looking for a specific item I'll look to see if they have it and compare prices.
