So I wasn't really sure which section to post this in. I'm in Texas and legally carry concealed...17 was too bulky for carry in our warm weather, so I got a 26 which is very concealable. However I'm not sure whether I should part with my 17 or not. Should I relegate it to the nightstand or would it he more worthwile to use the 26 as both carry and nightstand and sell the 17?

How much could I expect to get for the 17? It's ove a year old, 3rd gen, bought new, probably 1500-2000 rounds through it.

Most people can shoot a fullsize gun better than a compact gun.

I'd say keep it, at least for nightstand duty, but a more fun option would be to find out about www.uspsa.org and/or www.idpa.com clubs in your area.

You'll have fun, learn how to shoot better and wonder why you hadn't done it sooner !

I'd say keep it or sell both and get a 19. You have both extremes in Glock service 9mms and that's not bad. Let me tell you how I came to this conclusion.

The agency I worked for issued G17s to uniformed and G19s to plainclothes. When they adopted the Glock they also adopted "issued weapons only, on and off duty". I had a G19 and was happy with it probably the best all around size Glock 9mm. Of course there were those in management who wanted the smallest gun possible and eventually the agency bought G26s. I was in charge of firearms training for my office and this gave me the option of taking one of G26s when they came in. I took the second that arrived at the office (the first had to go to the boss). I had a 19 and a 26 and the only edge the 26 had (as far as I was concerned) was it was easier to use in an ankle holster due to the shorter grip. I traded in my 19 for a 17 and had a 17 and 26 both of which I carried concealed. I usually carried a 17 mag with a +2 for a reload when carrying the 26. You need to see if this works for you before you carry it routinely.

If you want to stick with 9mm I would sell 17 and get a 19. Why? The 19 is easier to carry concealed than the 17 due to the shorter grip; however, the 19 grip is still big enough to get my entire hand on it. IMO the 19 is a full size gun.

I carried a G26 for a year and ended up selling it for a CZ PO1, just didn't shoot good enough for me. The G19 would be a better choice than the G17 as the poster above wrote...

If you ever open carry in a hip holster, keep the 17. Those sub-compacts are hard to get a grip on when drawing from most hip holsters/OWB belt holsters.

Keep the 17. A full size handgun will serve as a home defense gun better. Longer sight radius makes accuracy easier and not to mention the less recoil and more rounds on tap.

Plus if you ever need to take a newbie out shooting, the 17 will be much easier for them to handle than the 26.

I am a big fan of my G26... It is my day-use and my nightstand gun with an 11+1 loaded and a 17 rounder next to it. To me, this is plenty, especially considering the 870 is just a stones throw away too. On the other hand, I also appreciate the G17 as being the "father of all Glocks". I would say keep the G17 unless you are truly strapped for cash. It is nice that you have the option of interchangeable ammo and mags between the two.
