i wonder what the best (most accurate) ammo is for around $5 a box of 50. i cant justify spending more than that, otherwise i could be buying 9mm. thanks for the help!

sorry! it is a .22lr bolt action.

$5 for 50? i've only been shooting for a few years...but my boxes of 50 .38 and .357 are never under $18.

am i being ripped off?

Wolf brand. Start with some Match Target and go up to Match Extra to see if it helps.
After that you are into the high priced spread.

People not knowing what caliber a Winchester Model 75 is just makes me feel old. It used to be one of the standard junior .22 target rifles.

Hi, Kurts:

As with most other guns, buy a small box of anything you can find locally, and try them out.

This does 2 things...You find what ammo works the best in YOUR rifle.

You get to shoot A LOT while finding the best ammo for YOUR gun.

I am not familiar with the Winchester 75, but if it is an older model, probably one or 2 brands of the standard hi-speed plated stuff (Federal # 810, Rem Golden Bullet)will work better than the hyper-speed stuff like Stingers, Velocitors, Yellow Jackets, Vipers, etc.

.22's chose their own best ammo but I used to find that the odds were in my favor with Federal Champion that I used to buy for $9.95 a brick of 500.

That was in the late 1970's - it can't have gone up very much..........you think?

No it is not. Wolf is just one brand on a long list that you need to try. Some rifles do vary well with Wolf, some do better with Eley or Lapua. There is just to many options out there to say what will work best in any rimfire.

I've got some .22's that shoot the cheapest ammo the best. It all depends on the gun but the odds are better with good ammo it'll shoot good obviously. I've never had much luck with Federal even the better lines.

I've had one for years and it is a fine rifle. Just shoot different ammo to see which shoots best. This is a rifle that is worth the extra cost of .22 LR Match grade.
