My MIL has been bashing my having/carrying a gun for about 6 years now. She frequently vocalizes that I must be afraid, ect., and that she is not afraid. And if she did need protection she would just dial 911 and why can't I just do that? She does have an unfired .22 pistol “just for target practice” as she constantly reminds us when the subject comes up.
Fast forward to two nights ago. In the early morning about 8 teenage boys come between her house and the neighbors house to loudly talk/hang out. Although married, she is alone that night. She dials 911, then waits . . . 20 minutes for an officer to arrive. By then the boys had left.
The boys apparently do nothing outside of trespass, loudly talk/hang out, but it scares her badly enough that the next day she asks us to come over to install a motion sensing light on that side of the house (me) and get her gun loaded (the wife). Smartly the wife says she won't do that unless MIL knows how to use the gun.
I can hardly believe it. She blithely watches the nightly robbery/rape/murder report on the news every night and does not bat an eyebrow, but a couple of boys outside her bedroom window talking loudly and it's OH MY GOD I DON”T KNOW HOW TO LOAD MY GUN! Take me to the range!
I thought MIL did not have a single sense left in her head, but this episode has shown me self preservation is the last sense to leave the body.
The good news? I just got a “get out of BS free” card to play!
