the first has a really nice stock. strong circle P cartouche and DOD cartouche. serial number 1472643. SA barrel dated 11/65 with the imprint (sa 6535448 11 65 md51). bolt stamped (D28287-12SA over W10A). SA op rod stamped (D34382 6 SA). old style SA trigger assembly stamped (D28290-12-SA). not sure if the stampings are significant other than saying SA so i posted them anyway.

the second service grade's stock is not much better than my field grades but it looks like it may have some nice tiger striping. i'm thinking about refinishing the stock to bring out its potential. the stock has a square P cartouche. the serial is 1805586. SA barrel dated 6-43 which might actually be the original barrel. it is stamped (2-S-A-6-43). bolt is stamped (6628287-SA over YC1). HRA op rod stamped (6535382 HRA). newer style SA trigger assembly stamped (6528290-SA).

The wood on the first one looks really nice. The second one looks like a good candidate for a winterlong refinishing project. You're right about the striping on the second stock. Looks like it has the potential of being a beautiful stock.

How long ago did you order them? :)

(just got order confirmation for my SA SG nine days ago)

Wow, the metal is in great shape. Overall those look excellent to me. I've seen some Garands that were seriously worn out.

I didn't know the CMP's dwindling soon to be gone supply still had Garands of that quality left.

Seems like everybody jumped at once when the Service Grades came available again. :D

Here's mine, ordered 10/27, recieved 11/16. Thank you CMP!

Springfield receiver, Feb 1943 production. Everything SA except trigger housing, which is WRA. Rebarreled and stocked at Red River Arsenal in September of 65, barrel marked June '65, and I'm betting on not fired since.

I was playing around with my camera, hence the overcomplicated setup for the pic. :neener:

Here's another:
