So I applied probably not more than a few weeks ago for my C&R and BAM it came in the mail today. I was SHOCKED. I seriously thought it'd be a 2-3 month wait. Anyways, I'm over joyed and thought I'd share and ask a question or two...

So first, what's YOUR favorite site/place to use your C&R? I'm itchin real bad to pick something up... Upon submitting or contacting most of these sites do you get a discount?

Secondly, I'm still waiting for my log book for the batf(?) so i'm going to wait till I get that before I do so much as sneeze on a new mosin. BUT are C&R collections ever subject to "inspection"? I may be referring to info pulled out of someones a$$, but I recall hearing people with class III weapons and such are potentially subject to "inspection", to make sure the weapons are safely secured (some bs like that, please chime in because this was yeeeaaars ago). Are C&R applicants subject to this? I understand I must keep my log books up, but do I need to have all my firearms stored in one residence (the one on my license)?

Thanks for the replies guys.... and post some dirty C&R pics PLEASE! I'm hurting!

When I got my 03 FFL I made several copies, signed the copies with a red pen, and mailed them off to as many dealers/retailers as I could think of. With your license on file you just start buying guns and where applicable getting discounts on supplies. I recently got an Md 57 from SOG.

Aim Surplus is a good source of quality C&R rifles. I purchased one of their re manufactured M1 Garands. Also, Family Firearms and Finishes in OH is a great source, I just bought a vz24 from him.

MidwayUSA gives dealer prices if you fax them a copy of your 03FFL and with a note asking for a dealer discount and your MidwayUSA number.

Yes, you are subject to inspection and your C&Rs need to be stored at the address on your license. From what I understand the inspections are typically the BATF going through your book to make sure everything is up to snuff and making sure you aren't using your 03FFL for commercial purposes or doing transfers for your friends and family.

My C&Rs are anything but dirty....

sigh... looks like I'm going to have to (or should at least) change my address.... anyone know how long this process takes? Can I purchase while changing my address? My address for everything is at my parents, but I live longish term in a different house (I'm in college, locally but I don't live at home). :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: what do they say about the stupidity of youth...

There place is only a few miles away... I worry about security there and can't afford a whole new safe for their house

Congrats on your C&R. I'm planning the same.

I can't answer BATF specific questions - only they can with any authority. Inspections for a C&R are rare. One thing that could happen is that they will certainly contact the residents of the address you list if that becomes necessary. Get mom and dad in the loop, please. Living away while in college is very common, let the BATF answer that for you. They don't mind.

I have a question - are you using loans to finance your education? I found I didn't have much disposable income in college, especially as I was paying my way. It's basically a matter of priorities. I didn't get the chance to own a HK P7 at the time, still don't, but what the heck. I don't really miss it, either. I never had loans to pay off, either. That worked for me, as the middle class American dream salaried life didn't quite materialize. It's even tougher now for grads.

Food for thought.

I definitely should call the local BATF and get their perspective. I told my father I got the license, which he surprised me by saying he used to have one too! So that is gtg, though I should probably let the mothering unit know...

I am not using loans to fund my education. I've actually managed to stay debt free so far (probably not for much longer), but have worked A TON through college. I do owe my parents a little money, they fronted me some and though they probably don't expect me to pay them back, I will. It was only 2k, It's pretty much taken care of. Wayne State University in Detroit was very reasonable price-wise when I started, but it has increased drastically over the years.

I have of course missed out on a quantifiable butt load of fun toys and tools :-(, though I still have a relatively respectable collection. Shooting really is one of my most relaxing hobbies, it really helps keep the stress down and a smile on the face.

Secondly, I'm still waiting for my log book for the batf(?)
You will receive a number of publications from ATF (or perhaps just the CD these days), but a bound book will not be one of them.

You can purchase one, but it's not necessary to do so. A three ring binder is sufficient. I use one with the plastic page protectors; you just need to make sure all your pages are sequentially numbered. Here's a page you can download and print out: http://www.type03.net/BoundBooks/Bound_Book.pdf

Kernel, your ATF person doesn't know their own regs (gee, what a shocker).

From the D.O.J. BATF&E “Federal Firearms Licensee General Guidelines and Information” pamphlet, ATF P 5300.15 Revised June 2004, page 1.
Taken from the GCA 1968 (18 USC, 921 et seq) and Title 27 Code of Federal Regulations 478 and 479.

Firearms Records You Must Keep:

1. You must keep a separate permanent “bound book” record of all firearms acquired and disposed of. This includes firearms received in pawn, curio’s and relics, and firearms received for overnight (or longer) repair. A bound book should either be a permanently bound or an orderly arrangement of loose-leaf pages. It must be maintained on the business premises.

Also located this from...

Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide 2000
ATF P 5300.4 (01-00)
General Questions Section:

Records Required-Licensees.
Question E1,

What is a "bound Book?"

A "bound book" is a permanently bound book or an orderly arrangement of loose-leaf pages which must be maintained on the business premises. In either event, the format must follow that prescribed in the regulations and the pages must be numbered consecutively. [27 CFR 178.125]

By that definition, even numbered pages in a file folder could be deemed acceptable as a "bound book".

Quick question on required paperwork. I have in my BATF C&R paperwork forms 7CR application,5330.20 citizenship certification, certification of secure storage and fingerprint card. A search of older posts at various forums are split on what is required. All the above named forms,7CR application and citizenship only or any combination of the 4? This is the most current post I could find so any current info will be appreciated. Thanks Deadeye

The Storage isn't required, that is for an 01FFL, as are the fingerprint cards. There seems to be someone at the forms department who doesn't know the difference between an 01 and an 03, they always send extra crap out.

5330.20 citizenship certification is a duplication of section 10 on the latest 7CR, pretty sure it's not really required anymore as a separate form. Leave 10 B and C blank unless you are indeed a nonimmigrant alien.
