I'm waiting for my C&R to arrive. Can't wait! Can I get some good suggestions as to what to buy first? I'm looking for fun shooters for around $300 bucks or less. What have you folks bought that you found to be fun?
I'm not a collector so all matching parts etc. is not important to me.:)

i have a german mauser that's a blast. it will leave a mark though.

for a little more than $300, the M1 Garand is the most fun of any C&R rifle.

the K31 is cool, just because of the unusual straight pull bolt.

and nothing wrong with an SKS.

When you get your license, it's a good idea to send a singed copy to eveyone you plan to do business with. This really speeds up those first few purchases.

Don't forget to send them in to Brownells, Midway, and Numrich gun parts, for a dealer discount.

Apply for another credit card- you'll need it!

Bookmark now all the most popular C&R dealers. Start getting an idea of who has what at the best price. One of each of the most popular import rifles is not out of reach for anyone.... and start training your UPS driver.

NOT A COLLECTOR?

Check out some of the C&R forums....maybe you will become a collector. Worst things can happen. www.gunboards.com is the oldest. There are more than a few. I even have one.

Buy a Swedish Mauser before they go up anymore. They're right around $300 now. Best Mauser out there, exquisite craftsmanship and the 6.5 Swedish round has great performance with little recoil.

Actually, don't! You might prevent me from getting another.

The reason I got my C&R is because I wanted to be able to get the inexpensive Mosin Nagants and K98 Mauser variants being advertised via mail order and have some new stuff to shoot.

After I acquired several Mosins, Mausers, and Swiss K31s, the 'shooter' in me started looking at the the more uncommon rifles like the Swedish Mauser, Finnish M39, Garands, and Springfields. I started paying attention to matching parts when appropriate and the 'collector' started to develop within me.

If you want some rifles to get you out and shooting, get a Russian M91/30, a Swiss K31, and one of the 8mm Mausers (German K98, Yugo M48, Czech VZ24, etc). You could get all three of those for a little over $300.

After that, then you can start looking into spending on a Garand, 1903 variant, Swedish Mauser, or one of the other less common milsurps. Don't wait too long though. Less and less of these fine rifles are disappearing from the market and going into private collections.

Just a suggestion if you don't know it...

Before you sign it make a bunch of photocopies. Sign and mail those. Never sign the original. File it someplace safe so you can make more copies later if needed. Your copies must be signed in ink.

You'll usually get your FFL related materials before your actual C&R license. Bound printed copies of the Federal firearms laws and all the State laws.

I use a PDF form. I type in the entries and print out the sheet and put them in a ring binder (plastic sleeves). Each sheet holds 4 entries.

It's nice too since I can save each PDF and keep the electronically for backups (granted, you need the full version of Adobe Acrobat to save data in the form).
