I took it out of the box and it didn't have the mount with it, so I am exchanging it for one that does. but before I sent it back, I put the battery in and checked it out.

I was expecting to see a red dot, but instead it looked more like a red mosquito spuashed on the windshield. No matter how I adjusted it, rather than a dot, it looked like more of a spider web than a dot. Does that sound like a bad scope or is that what I should expect? I am glad it is being exchanged just in case, but I was expecting much more definition.

1. It isn't going to look like what you may have seen in video games or online examples of the reticle. So if that's your expectation, you'll be disappointed.
2. Don't look "at" the dot. Look at an object through the tube, and superimpose the dot on it. The farther out you look, the smoother the dot will look.

If I understand your post correctly you may have astigmatism which when viewing a red dot will make the dot appear like a daisy with six or seven pedals.

I don't know how to describe it. kind of looked like a snowflake but not perfect like a snowflake. it had very fine and distinct (to my eyes) irratic "spikes/crooked fine lines" coming from the bright center. I will know if it my eyes or that scope I suppose when the replacement arrives. Then I will shoot with it and see if the fine spikes are consistent and or benificial to shooting with it.

Try adjusting the intensity down. It doesn't need to be a starburst in your view. Just bright enough to see well.

Over the years (many) my eyes developed an astigmatism which I was unaware of until I purchased my first red dot. I have found that just put the target or POI in the center of what ever your supposedly dot gives you and everything works. It is a bummer because like you I wanted a clean dot to work with.

great thread Sky. I have to agree that must be my problem. I am anxious to see if the second one is any different but I do recall years ago an eye doctor telling me I couldn't wear contacts for that very reason. I'll post back when I get the replacement.

TechBrute, I tried all the settings, but admittedly I did not have it mounted on a rifle when I was looking at it and was inside the house at the time. I will test every setting as well as different eye relief as much as I can adjust it when I put it on an AR and shoot it. I just spent too much money not to give it my best shot.

Only reason I say to lower the intensity is that I have a slight astigmatism, and the bloom is much more noticable at the higher settings. If that is your problem, then lowering it may help. Worth a try anyway. You picked one of the best optics on the market...

You might want to have someone else look at the red dot and see what they say.
Kind of like a second opinion.

Good luck
God speed

I got the replacement scope and this one does look a little different. resembles more of a / with fine streaks like tiny lightning bolts coming out of it. I mounted it on my bushmaster and I think I will be able to work with it. this is something I won't really know until I shoot it. it's just been raining every day I am off since I got it. I have to get used to shooting with both eyes. one eye has always been a bad habit with me. I suppose it's because the first gun I ever owned was a .22 rifle with a 4x Tasco and I just developed that habit from starting using a scope I think. I even shoot trap with one eye.

It's your eyes. I have an M4S and a T-1, and if I use them without my glasses, I see a little red fuzz ball instead of a red dot. If I put my glasses on, it's a proper red dot. Your eyes might be a titch out of whack. I have 20/25 in one eye and 20/30 vision in the other eye, but it's enough to screw with the way I see dots. The EOTech sight is even worse for me. The EOTech sight is absolutely useless to me if I'm not wearing glasses. You're likely the same way.

I ended up having someone build a .556 with a spike lower and a rock river upper. I put the Aimpoint M4s on it and after tuning in the iron sights and the aimpoint and getting them to coexist I shot my final clip at the orange circle. I suppose I can see the dot good enough... :) This was from about 34 yards
