Well Monday I purchased my first handgun, a S&W M&P9, now I have to wait ten days (thanks California). I had a few questions.

Is there a certain way to break in a brand new hand gun other than just cleaning it and then shooting it?

Also, what is a good way to store this gun? I will need use a case to transport it from place to place, will that suffice for storing when at home. I don't want this to rust up on me.

Thanks all
Matt

Where in Cali?

After watching that video, I actually feel BETTER about owning 2 M&Ps and no Glocks. Nothing against Glock personally, but firing 33 rounds into a muck filled garbage can within city limits isn't necessarily the brightest thing to do.

Yes, but it is a secret. I tell you what, send the guns to me and I'll break it in properly for you.

In all serious, I would suggets shooting 50 rounds, cleaning, repeating until you have put about 250 rounds through it.

Here is a site to look for answers to all your M&P questions:

Also, here are a couple of videos on field stripping your M&P:

one of the owner-recommended methods is to dry fire about 100-200 times with snap caps to wear the "grit" out of the trigger. You don't have todo this before the range. The range time will work in the trigger the same.
