I wanted one since the 80's. We used a mini to kill steer at the butcher shop i worked in. Never could afford one. So finally my dream came true. Still debating to scope it or not. It's a ranch. I think they send the casings out the side. I'll see how i do with the irons and go from there. Im loading 55 grain magtech from RMR with 24.2 grains of varget.

Happy 35th birthday! A dream gun is always a celebration.

I say, go all out and put the rail on, a nice 1-4 Leupold would be PERFECT

All minis made after the retooling are Ranch rifles afaik, I used a Nikon 1-4x20 in Leupold low rings on mine. That's the lowest scope mounting option I could come up with, and it works well with the original stock. Down side is you have to remove the rear base for the occular to clear.

A small leupy might be able to scrape by without removing the sight

Be nice to see a baseline of accuracy with some 55 and 62 5.56. The newer ones are supposed to shoot fine. Tho all the ones I've shot grouped fine for there use.
My pencil barrel example shoots minute-of-enemy no problem. It would need some serious trigger attention for target work, but thats not its purpose in the arsenal......I have ARs for the DMR role.:)

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on shooting it tomorrow after noon. I put a coat of tru-oil on it after i was done loading. I'll put another 2 coats on it in the morning then. Question run it wet like an AR? Or just light lube?
I grease mine just like a Garand- Mobil Synth Red on the bolt lug and op rod races and hammer hooks. I would apply light oil or silicone to the exposed blued bits as well. There are, of course, myriad other rust preventatives, but definitely use something.
