My granddad passed away last April and one thing I asked my grandma for after he died was his .410 sense my dad was getting his Remington semi-auto 16ga. My grandma is now in a rest home and she told me to go to the house and get the gun if I still wanted it. So I did. Its a Mossberg 183T bolt action. It's got a full choke barrel and takes 2 1/2 and 3" shells. The serial # is 10009xx. What can you tell me about this gun?. How old is it,about how much is it worth?,does it have a good reliability record?

Thanks,
Brian Craig

How much is it worth. Does not really matter. it was your grandfathers gun. no value should ever be put on it. If you really need to know how much you can get for it then give it back.

I have a rifle that was my fathers. he gave it to me years ago. i remember as a kid learning how to shoot with it. recently i taught my youngest son to shoot with it. There isnt a value that can be put on that rifle. Some day i will give it to one of my boys.

I inherited a High Standard .22 Magnum derringer from my late father, one of his favorite toys. I've researched quite a bit, and have a fair idea of what it's "value" is, but to me it's a family heirloom. Somethings transcend mere value.

Thats what I should have said. How much is it's value. No, I don't have any intentions of ever selling it. It was always on the gun rack in the living room and I've always thought it was a unique, unusal gun as it's a bolt-action shotgun.I know BA shotguns aren't rare, its just I haven't ever seen more than about 3 in my lifetime, inluding this one.

Bolt action shotguns are common, they just do not get the attention other action styles do.

BAs are utility guns, inexpensive and durable.Yours, with care, will last to serve several more generations.

Cherish it.....

I have my dads 410, my stepmom give it to me the day we put dad in the ground, it to is a mossberg 183 I take it out about once a year and shoot a rabbit or squirrel so it doesn't feel neglected

In S. P. Fjestad Blue Book of Gun Values (older 22nd Ed is the newest I have, I think they are up to Ed. 27) a 100% Mossberg 183T is listed at $125.00, 98% is listed at $100.

If YOU are selling it -$50. If a gun show weasle....I mean dealer....is selling it- $150(VERY RARE, owned by Teddy Roosevelt!!!) Don't worry about what it's worth. It was your granpa's .410, keep it, love it, shoot it, leave it to your kid/grandkid.

it's not worth enough to get rid of. Let's put it that way.

My theory is you should never sell a gun, once you've got it.

Mossberg 183T

Since you asked about value, I did a bit of research. From the 2007 Standard Catalog of Firearms:

"Mossberg manufactured a variety of shotguns that were sold at low to moderate prices. The value for these arms are approximately all the same.

Model 173, Model 173Y, Model 183D, Model 183K, Model 183T, Model 185D, Model 185K, Model 190D, Model Model 190K, Model 195K, Model 385K, Model 385T, Model 390K, Model 390T, Model 395K, Model 395S, Model 395T, model 73

Excellent condition, $90
Very good condition, $65
Good condition, $50
Fair condition, $40
Poor condition, $25"

It was your grandpa's gun. Don't ever sell it. I can't help with the manufacture date.
