I picked up my $189 black friday special WASR from Dunham's yesterday. All in all, it was a great deal. It's the fixed stock with separate pistol grip. It has some *slight* cant, but I can hardly tell. Oh well, that's fixable, and beggars can't be choosers, right?

I have a few questions now. I have searched and read up alot and answered most of the questions. It's currently a single stack, and I'd like to modify it to a double stack. I'd also like to take the tack welded nut off and put a birdcage flash hider on.

It has a tapco G2 trigger, disconnector and hammer. The gas piston looks like the original. The pistol grip looks like the black plastic tapco US version (I haven't taken it off to confirm if possible)

To (legally) modify to double stack mag well, all I have to do is replace the piston with a US made one, correct?

I haven't really found any info on putting a birdcage FH on it, but is this even possible? If so, do I have to replace more parts if the FH isn't US made? Should I be looking at getting the US tapco slant break and forget about the FH? If I get a FH or break, do I need to tack weld it back on, or did that die with the AWB?

Any way to tell what year it is by the serial? I thought I saw a page that had that info on, but I can't seem to find it again.

Ok, thanks... does anyone know if the flash hider / muzzle brake has to be welded on still now that the AWB has expired?

Anyone have any idea on Romanian serial to date translations? If I'm reading http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/marking.htm right, it would be a 1971 model?? Did they make WASRs then?

Can anyone confirm if the muzzle brake / flash hider has to be welded on now that the AWB has expired?
