Well I got it in my thick nogin today to reblue my winchester 94 that I picked up for $150 a few years ago. The receiver was totally trash with rust and pitting. So today was the day. I got some coarse sand paper, and 200 grit thin sand paper and let at it. I got it down to bare metal and tried my best at getting the pits out. ugh was that a pain in the butt. So I used the liquid rub on blue, cant remember the name right now and followed the directions. It turned out pretty good, I think I could have made the blue a little darker to match the rest of the hardware, but you cant really tell. I also got out most of the pitting. So here is the I GOT SCURRED part. I couldnt remember how to put the bugger back together. Well needless to say after about 20minutes of tinkering I figured out which screws went where and how to put the lever and trigger and hammer and bolt and everything else up in there pretty much all at once. So all in all I am happy with my little project. By the way I know what you guys are gonna say, YOU SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT! well when I say pitted and trashed, it was. At least now its not an eyesore like before.

Your gun, do what you legally want to it. Sounds like you saved a not really collectable firearm from the rust demon. Take it to a local gunsmith, and have them do a safety inspection, just to cover your self.
Got pics?

wish I had a camera to do a before and after, but let me tell you it looks a hell of a lot better.... I wouldnt be shamed with it now if I met someone while I had it. lol. The really sad part is of this is. Some dumb ass before me just didnt oil it. They might have fired a few rounds through it, but all the internal mechanisms have very little wear, if none. I did do a serial number search and it was made during the 70's. So it probably just sat around collecting dust and rust. Any of you guys have some project guns you wouldnt mind showing I would love to see some pictures of before after or after would be just fine. Sorry i dont have pics.

I'm really surprised that you got the receiver to take the blueing. After 1964 winchester used some strange metals for their receivers and a lot would not take blewing very well. I bought a brand new 94 from walmart that had some light scratches. I tried every cold blue I had and nothing worked.

yeah she took it no problem, only thing that is a problem, well the mistake I made is I dont think I blued it dark enough.. Still big improvement Though...

LOL its not new lol. It was bought about 5yrs ago and sat around most of time (besides hunting with it) until I got the balls to reblue it..

I refinished one Model 94 in matte black heat set Laquer for a customer.
Not my first choice in finishes but it came out looking pretty darn good.

Winchester 94s aren't too terrible hard to put back together.
I have an old Factory Winchester assemblers guide that helps.

Winchester shotguns are way worse than their rifles when reassembling, believe me on this.

Its great that you were able to save your gun:), I hate when I see guns that people let go to waste:fire:

must be a colloquial pronunciation of skeered, also the past tense of skeered.
