We picked up the daughter's 2011 buck from the taxidermist yesterday. He did a wonderful job on it and I think she will be proud of him.

This buck has a bit of history with both of us. Year before last I had him dead to rights at 30yds with my bow and cleanly shot right under him. I clearly remember putting the proper pin on him for the shot, then verifying it by double checking it twice to be sure. I do not however remember ever looking through my peep. LOL

So we had gotten several game cam pics of him with this probably being the best one, once again 20yds from my bow stand, unfortunately for me, two days before I was there,

He had a ton of character, a bullet had grazed his antler under the right side of the main beam, and he had almost ducked an arrow previous to her getting him the Friday after last Thanksgiving. He had a 6" or so healing gash across the top of his back just behind his shoulders. It would have been a perfect shot had he not ducked or had it been a foot lower.

So anyway here he is from the woods above, to tailgate, and on to wall mount,

We had a tape on him yesterday, and after the time since Nov, until now, he scored 137 2/8". He would have broken 140 easily had he not broken off a portion of his right side, but still in all not a bad buck for our little 100 or so acre place.

There are a few more pics of him here in the album if your interested,

feel free to browse around while your there she has a few other pretty decent ones in the other albums as well.

I would have loved to have had the oldest grandson get him, but that's hunting. He had gone with me to a friends place to get in on some hogs. The daughter hunted our place that morning, and after getting out at 05:30, and sitting until 10:53 when she made the shot. She doesn't hunt from a stand but simply picks a spot out in the pasture or along one of the tree lines and gets comfortable. I am pretty proud of her and her hunting, she usually picks out one and stays on it, and passes on a lot of deer to get that particular one she is after.

So anyway just a little braggin of sorts... hope you enjoy.

That is very cool! My 4yo son keeps asking to go on my Elk hunt this fall. I can not wait till he is old enough, and I actually know enough to teach him. I would be over the moon if my daughter wanted to hunt with us too. But she is only 3 months old so I have time.

Thanks for sharing the story and photos. You can be proud of the hunter you have brought up. Great job as a dad!

That's as large as any whitetail i've ever SEEN in TX... certainly never shot a deer that size. Your pics look like somewhere flatter and northeast of here, so i'd expect them to be a little bigger, but judging from the photo on the tailgate, that's a very good sized, mature buck... and yeah, i can imagine he got that size by dodging a few hasty shots in the past... NICE!

Thanks guy's, I appreciate it. Yep I am proud of her. She had a tough time of it growing up being a girl and all due to our outdoor lifestyle. She never was much for the frill and fancy so to speak. I had wanted a boy to raise up and teach the things my pop and elders had passed along to me and I guess I just did the best with what I had to work with. LOL

Growing up she had the opportunity to hunt on several different places with me, and she always hauled her own weight. Not only is she dedicated she might be a touch obsessed with it. Two weeks almost to the day, before delivering my oldest grandson, against everyones advice, especially her Dr's, she hiked down to the back pasture and took a really nice buck.

The, now three, grandsons are being raised up in a very similar manner. They as a family go coon hunting, raise a few cattle, and such, and they all come out to hunt the family place with mom and Pawpaw.

Thanks Flint, I had forgotten about that, Here is the link to it as well,

Texas,

our place is over in Anderson Co. It isn't much of a spread at only 118 acres, but there are some good genes in the area. We do our best to only take one or two bucks at the most, now that the grandson is working on them to. Over the years we have seen some, that on the hoof looked to easily have smoked this one, and I had one uncle that DID take one that was huge. That was close to 40yrs ago however and since then those big ones have played VERY hard to get.

The daughter and I set out one year to get one she named "Casper" due to how he could seeming slip from one side of us across the open pastures and appear there on the other side well out of range. We once set up a temporary stand one night at almost midnight, then were back in it at 05:00, only to watch him slip across the hill above us in the moonlight not 30yds away. We never got him, but he was easily a 20" plus typical 10 and he took my breath away the first time I saw him. I literally shouted across a 30 acre pasture for her to shoot him. He was simply standing broadside to her at only about 80yds, but she couldn't see him at all due to some limbs hanging down between her and him.

Yep we have a time of it and while we have our family moments, disagreements, and such throughout the year, like everyone does, come deer season, all that goes out the window, and we get serious.

very cool story! thank you very much for letting all of us in on it. that is one very nice deer, and an excellent looking mount!

Thats awsome! Its great to introduce new hunters!

I guided my sister in law this spring to get her first bear.
She was soooo excited!!

My son
Is still 2-1/2 years old, but he already wants to shoot with daddy!
It would mean the world to me if he had the same passion for hunting/shooting as I have! I could guide him to some big deer, moose, bears up here in Northern Alberta.

It is sooo nice to see the ladies enjoying thier part of the natural cycle of life and survival!
Keep it up ladies!

Straight shootin, and keep it fun!
