Let me start by stating that I have an M38 that has not been force matched but compared to the M44 my neighbor has mine is a pile of junk! Sweet trigger and the bolt is almost as smooth as any of my Enfields. Since it was late in the day and cloudy I got to enjoy the fireball and admire the arsenal refinish that was done on this rifle. I have to admit I'm a little jealous and I might go looking for a good M44 over the weekend. He also had a newer stainless 10/22 in a synthetic stock that felt a million times better than the wood stocked versions I have shot. I took my Savage Enfield out and put over 100 rounds through it. That rifles accuracy and handling impress me every time I shoot it. My neighbor was impressed when I was able to reduce a block of concrete to rubble with one 10 round mag.
