i know that shot placement is key, but if i do my part i want a bullet that will do its part. shots will be close range mostlikley 30 yards max. it is a 6 inch barrel and i would just like to know what you would or do use?

Just about any of the hunting specific 158grn+ loads will do an outstanding job if you do your part. There's no need for $40 a box exotic loads

.357 mag will drop a whitetail just fine. Buffalo bore would be good or perhaps corbon's DPX ammo? The DPX is loaded with a barnes X bullet and I think it would get the job done nicely.

For the .357 in the GP-100 I like handloads with the Cast Performance 160 WFNPB or 180 WFNGC in hardcast, or the Remington 180 JHP in hollow points.

Gun go bang, deer fall down :).

Just my .02,

so has any one used the hornady bullets either the jhp or the lever everloution or do they make their tap ammo im just curious i will probly get a few diffrent options and see what i shot the best with

stoutly loaded LSWC

Why would you need this for deer at around 30 yards? I zero my handguns in for deer at 100 yards and still don't use anything that is stoutly loaded in my .357's or .44's. I use factory Hornady 158gr Hp-XTP loads in the .357. And Hornady .240 gr HP-XTP loads in the .44's. I have only loast one deer in 17 years of hunting with a pistol. An that was my fault because I didn't know were the bullet would hit at such a steep downward angle.

If you are not a reloader, then by all means consider the LeverEvolution from Hornady. I have talked to several people here in Wyoming this hunting season that have used it and love it. One gentleman was waiting to get his mulee and antelope into the processing joint. His antelope was at 145yds and his mulee was at around 135yds according to his Nikon rangefinder (oh daddy wants). Both were one shot one kill, said the mullee dropped in his tracks, the goat went about 20yrds before keeling over.

I personally have no experience with these bullets but the theory on them seems solid, and all of the reports from people I know and don't know, have been positive...both from levers and wheelies.

cowboy68t1... i live in texas would info like that be in a game proclamation if not where do i find the spacifics on minimum energys. I hunt west texas and the deer are not what i would call big bodied

The problem with midweight JHPs is that they are designed to expand. This can and does work very well very often. But the first time your bullet hits bone on the way in and breaks up before it destroys anything important is usually enough to convince the hunter that he should stick with a more "controlled" expansion, if any at all.
