I know this is a big time rookie question but hay thats what the forums for right …..

Can some clerify the advages of a haver Grain over a ligher Grain or vicea
versa? Also what Grain would give a 9mm the optimum perfomace?

Heavier grain bullets tend to penetrate better, due to their greater momentum, however they travel at lower velocities and, if propelled at the same velocities as lighter bullets, will generate more recoil. Lighter bullets, on the other hand, tend to fly faster, and have less recoil, at the expense of penetration, due to diminished momentum. They do, however tend to expand more readily, in the case of hollow point ammunition. As far as an ideal grain weight for the 9mm, the most popular, and dare I say, effective rounds tend to be loaded with hollow point bullets weighing somewhere in the 120-130 grain range. e.g. 124 and 127 grains. There are all types of bullets made for the 9mm between 80ish grains and 150ish grains, but the performance at the extremes of weight tend to be outshined by the middle weight bullets at standard pressures. Hope that helps.
