I saw this posted on another forum and really liked it so I copied it to share with you.....

An old grandpa once said, "Son, there comes a time in every
man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin'
knee caps. Usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass
whoopin'."

He goes on to say the following:

"I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from
being killed. I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun
because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because
there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I
have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun
because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I
don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be
prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun
because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk
somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun
because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun
because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun
because unarmed and facing three armed thugs I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love
life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the
crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old
to take an ass whoopin'.

Did you ever notice that the ones who want to have us lose our guns have
armed body guards? Wonder why that is?"

~ Grandpa Unknown

Good stuff. Grandpas are pretty smart.

My elderly uncle told me when I was a little boy:

The difference between a depression and inflation is this:

During a depression, a loaf of bread costs 25 cents and you have no money.

During inflation, a loaf of bread costs $1.00 and you only have 75 cents.

By the way, this is slightly incorrect:

Did you ever notice that the ones who want to have us lose our guns have armed body guards? Wonder why that is?"

One other group that wants us disarmed is the criminal element. When you are breaking into a house or carjacking someone, you much prefer an unarmed victim.

And yes, I include most politicians in the group of criminals who want to rob us and prefer that we are unarmed.

The openening of the original post reminds me of what happened to a freind of mine a few years ago. This guy is a pretty big guy, and grew up with three beautiful sisters and two mentally retarded brothers. Needless to say, he fought on an almost daily basis growing up. He was a good kid, a good student and a good person all around, so teachers and administrators did not really hold his fights against him when in school. He got a reputation as a badass fighter, despite being a very kind and friendly guy. Well, one day he was at work as a foreman of a construction company. A new guy had started, and was well aware of my friend's reputation, and aparently wanted to test the now older man (Only 35 at the time, but the new guy was 19 or 20). So the new guy kept talking about all the fighting he had done, and all the asses he had kicked, and kept asking my buddy about his fighting days, and assuring him what a badass he was. My buddy knew they guy was trying to get him to consent to a fight so he replied "Oh, I am a little more grown up now...no, I have been in my last fist fight. Next fight I am in is going to be a gun fight". The young fellow never brought up fighting again, and soon moved on to another job.
