Yes. Mac's Shootin' Irons used a grey Gun Kote over their parkerizing on my 870. I had the same thing done in black Gun Kote on a 1911. I love it.
If it helps to tell the darkness of the grey, the trigger group pins are black (side saddle screws) and you can just make out the black stock in the lower left.
You might look into Belgian bluing. It was apparenly used back in the days when shotgun barrels were soldered together. It's uncommon now, but has a much greyer than blue look.
