One important facet of debate is to take the offensive and make your opponent defend against assumptions and soundbites.

Brady has done this with the terms "Assault weapon," "Assault pistol," "Saturday Night Special," "Killing Machine" and "Ring of fire," "the common name for the manufacturers of cheap guns in CA."

We only need one term to keep in mind for debate from now on:

"The Brady Campaign, a hate group opposed to our SCOTUS endorsed, Constitutional rights..."

They oppose our civil rights. They're a hate group. End of discussion.

About time they felt the heat.

We just need to be smart. Don't just use words, use the right words.

Don't call it high capacity magazine call it standard cap magazine.
Don't call it 10 round magazine call it a crippled magazine.
Don't call it "anti gun" call it "anti right" and likewise don't call it "pro-gun" call it "pro-rights".
Don't call it conceal carry (permit, laws, etc) call it "right to carry".

Anti's say "gun kill" then pro gun groups fall for the trap and say "gun's don't kill people kill". The anti argument is emotional and while the pro gun argument is accurate it is cold and uncaring and thus falls flat. A better response would be "Guns save lives" (then lead into 2.5 million defensive uses) or "Self Defense is a Human Right". Not only is it accurate it carries emotional appeal.

Many gun owners short their rights by saying "the 2nd amendment allows me to carry guns". The reality is much stronger. The right to bear arms [and self defense] is a human right granted by our creator. The bill of rights simply warns the government that they have no authority is trying to control something that is a right even without government.

There have been some fantastic threads on debating tools/tactics here on THR. One of my favorites was : " If having a gun could prevent JUST ONE person from being raped and murdered....wouldn't it be worth it ?"
