Well, my wife asked me what I wanted for Father's Day, and after the obligatory power tool/gun stuff list, I told her I would like her to go to range with me. So, we did!

Attached are a few photos of her (I really didn't think anyone would want to see one of me :p ). She did amazingly well, especially since she hasn't been to the range with me for a couple of years (our oldest is now able to babysit, so we don't have to hire an outside sitter).

Hopefully, there will be many more like this day. We started off with the Walther P22 (her choice). I warned her it was not very accurate, right before she knocked down five falling plates in a row. :what: Then we moved on to the NAA .22 magnum, which I made the same mistake, and she had the same effects. By the third gun, I stopped telling her they were inaccurate (it must have been operator error). She liked the Ruger Mark II, but it was a bit heavy for her. She also felt she was cheating, because where ever she put the dot, she hit! (Isn't that the idea?)

We finally got to the S&W 9mm. Same thing-- short barrel, not that accurate. She put one in two consecutive targets at ~20 feet 2" from the bullseye. Her complaint -- it didn't hit in the center! Don't worry, she got better.

Then on to the rifles. She liked the AR, but what really tripped her trigger was the .22 Anschutz. She really took to the bolt action, with open sights. Again, she missed two out of all the plates she shot at.

She's a keeper!

What a great idea....would much rather get a day of practice at the range with the wife then a new toy. I'll have to remember that one :)

Many of you guys may not have noticed, but there was actually a gun in each of those pictures!! :neener:

Insectguy, that had to have been one of your best Father's Day presents, ever!

I've got lots of kids and over the years they've given me a lot of 'stuff' for Father's Day. This year though, my youngest daughter (she's 16) told me she wanted to shoot in a real match. With all those kids, I'm kinda impecunious (that's "mostly broke") and only have one rifle that's worth taking to a match. So we took my .308 Frankenmauser to a 600 yard prone shoot a few miles south of here and had at it. She nestled down behind the rifle and started popping off rounds like she had been doing it all her life while I kept watch. To make a long story short, she managed a total score of 532 out of 600 with 10 X's! At one point she had a string of nine shots inside the 10-ring before she shot a 9! All in all, it was a very good Father's Day!

:banghead: Well, she did it! She got me all puffed up over her interest in shooting and then informed me that she needs her own rifle. I took two or three years to put the Frankenmauser together, scrimping and saving on parts and services to keep it cheap enough so I could afford it. Now she's looking at rifles that cost 12 to 14 hundred dollars! Kids!
I guess I'll have to find my cardboard sign and go back down to the on-ramp...

Dad and I did a little father / son road trip for Father's Day. Three days running all over southwest Colorado.

Using the pic below as justification, I think the drive was worth it. :D
