Browning's 1911-380 pro with a 4.25" barrel is another soft recoil, easy to rack .380 acp option. 18 ounces and good fit for smaller hands. A bit expensive though.
I know I’m a broken record, but 32 H&R magnum should be way more popular than it is. I just don’t understand why it isn’t recommended more often. I wrote to Lucky Gunner requesting that they test it in ballistic gel but never heard back. Perhaps if a few more folks did the same they would do so. I’d love to see some testing out of a snub nose barrel.
I really like my Sig 938. I absolutely do not like the 22 Conversion. Because the magazine acts as a last round hold open. When the last round is fired, the slide locks open on the mag, you then have to manually pull the slide to the rear and lock it to drop the magazine. Come on sig, you can do better than that! For a option try the Sig 938 with the 22 conversion. I have arthritis and my 38spl J frame leaves me hurting after 20 rounds. I have a 22LR Beretta Model 71 that is the same weight as the SIG 938 with similar controls. So I was intrigued with the little SIG as a carry gun.
Was able to rent the SIG 938 and fifty 9MM rounds didn't leave my hand or wrist hurting. Having the 22 conversion kit would be a bonus.

Not to derail this thread, but your wife has a boyfriend? Did you mean Ex-Wife by chance?

I have one. As many here know, I just recently got it but I have been shooting it a lot (good thing I reload 380). It is on my belt right now. It is an accurate soft shooter that weighs very little.
People who are recoil sensitive due to arthritis are usually going to experience strength issues. Arthritis and muscle deterioration usually go hand in hand. I know it's not 100% true for all people. Even something like tunnel carpel syndrome.
So, yes you can get a big beefy pistol and shoot bunny fart loads that have almost no recoil but most shooters who are recoil sensitive aren't going to be able to hold that heavy gun out there for long.
I don't know about availability, but a CZ 83 in .380 would be soft shooting, reliable, and as effective as feasible in small calibers.
Or a CZ 83 in .32 ACP -- I've got one of those, and it's a creampuff to shoot.I don't know about availability, but a CZ 83 in .380 would be soft shooting, reliable, and as effective as feasible in small calibers.

im very surprised that large gunmakers like s&w and ruger haven’t latched onto the fact that a handgun mass produced in 38sp or 380acp can be made for 32long or 32acp, and meet the needs of oldsters or recoil averse. any snubbie revolver in 32 or a ruger lcp or s&w bodyguard in 32acp immediately come to mind.
They tried to reinvent it with the .327 witch shoots .327, 32 mag, and 32 long.
