Somebody either did not check it through NCIC, or if you have ever seen a return from NCIC on guns you would quickly understand how it can slip through the cracks

So true. One of the first days I was training as a communicator for Fort Worth PD, an officer wanted a gun run on NCIC/TCIC. At first, I thought we had caught John Dillinger - the resulting printout was about three pages (8.5x11) long and in the end, not one of the guns matched what our officer had.

That happened so many times in the future I came to realize just how many things out there there are that have a six digit serial number on them! ;)

Truly amazing! It's hard to even find the words that would do this incredible act of selflessness justice. Here is a man who, at the risk of losing his newly acquired $1000 investment, reached out and did the right thing.

I think every student in the whole country, well those old enough to read and write, should have to do a report on this article. They could learn a lot from these two true heroes. Certainly a lot more then they would from some damn singer, actor/actress, or athlete.

It also shows that when you do what is right that not only do you win by having a clean conscience, but sometimes you win even more. Chief Berry ended up with a 1911 even more valuable then he started with. This is an all original 1911 that was owned by a nine time Purple Heart recipient, assuming since he was wounded nine times, and a Medal of Honor recipient. He also found I'm sure a lifelong friend in Capt. McGinty.

It doesn't get any better than that. Semper Fi.
