Beautiful weather all week-end long.

Saturday, my wife actually felt good enough to get out of the house. We went to WalMart and then to a local Italian restaurant. She had a hiatal hernia repair back in December, and is finally getting over the surgery. Which has absolutely nothing to do with blackpowder, but that's coming.:)

Today I molded up 50 500 grain pointed bullets for my .45-70, loaded 5 of them over 55* grains of GoexFFFg and gave them a try. Nothing formal, just shooting at a cow patty about 280 yards out. Never did actually hit it, all shots fell a bit short, but at least they were all in line with the patty, no flyers to the left or right. I think I'm ready to put some of these loads on paper, just for kicks. I'm finally getting into the ballpark with this rifle now. You definitely know when you touch one off. Not painful, but a noticeable push on the shoulder.

Then just for kicks I shot the .45Colt roundball loads I talked about a week or so ago out of my R&D cylinder, and some rounds through my other Walker with percussion cylinder.

Then this evening I fixed us a fine meal of pinto beans, fried taters and onions, flour tortillas and what my wife calls Mexican meat. It's an old family traditional recipe of hamburger, garlic, red pepper, flour and tomato sauce. Now I have a ton of dishes to do, a rifle, and two Colt's Walkers to clean.

*My Buff Classic has a very shallow throat, and with the long 500 grain bullets I'm limited to light powder charges. My local gunsmith is going to ream out the throat a bit more so I can seat bullets out further, and get more powder in the hull.

I made some video, may try to edit and download it later.

Oh yeah, Treso nipples question. I put Tresos in one of the Walkers. It's been loaded in my gunsafe for a month or so. When I shot it I noticed a definite lag 'twixt cap pop and BOOM. At first I figgered it was just 'cause the gun had been loaded for awhile. But I heard it again on the fresh loads I put in. Goex FFFg. Has anyone else noticed this with Tresos?
